Product news

Genevac, leaders in solvent removal technology, has announced several new design innovations that have enabled solvent removal times in their popular miVac centrifugal evaporator to be imroved by up to 200% without loss of sample integrity.

New 'Black Magic' solid aluminium sample rotors have improved thermal transfer. This in combination with Genevac's unique Speed Trap refrigerated solvent condenser has facilitated higher throughput, safe DNA sample preparation, plasmid purification, dye terminator removal, cell fractionation, oligonucleotide and protein precipitation experiments.

The novel Speed Trap has been designed to considerably improve the performance of a miVac, by condensing vapours back to liquid, helping to maintain a strong vacuum thus speeding up the concentration process considerably. Users of the Speed Trap can readily see the solvents in the trap, and emptying is simple, requiring no defrosting.

The miVac range is the product of extensive market research with biologists around the world and has been designed to meet the requirements for careful and speedy drying in most biological applications. Special methods for drying aqueous and alcohol-based samples are included in all the miVac models. A range of concentrators feature capacity from six to twenty stacked shallow-well microplates or 48 to 200 micro centrifuge tubes of 1.5ml size. The miVac concentrators feature full LCD display with digital controls and programming of time and temperature. A range of suitable vacuum pumps is also available, including 2-head and 4-head diaphragm pumps and an ultra-low vacuum Scroll type pump.

miVac Concentrators

Genevac

miVac is a range of centrifugal vacuum concentrators and freeze driers capable of removing water and organic solvents from a variety of sample formats including tubes, microplates, and vials. miVac concentrators come in 2 sizes, the smaller Duo and a larger Quattro. There is a choice of vacuum pump and rotor according to application and sample format.  To speed concentration built-in special runs for working with water and water mixtures improve performance, helping optimise concentration time.  The addition of the revolutionary SpeedTrap condenser to the system will greatly enhance concentration performance.  miVac systems feature unique JetRotors - solid aluminium rotors which speed concentration manifold. An optional pressure control unit provides display of chamber pressure and manual or automatic control of the vacuum level. The miVac SpeedTrap can also be used for freeze drying when configured with a miVac Super vacuum pump, as a combined concentration / freeze drying workstation with a miVac vacuum concentrator or as a stand-alone freeze drier. Applications: Suitable for use with Oligo-synthesis, RNA/DNA prep., peptide prep., sequencing, molecular biology, ADME / toxicology labs, process development, residue analysis, environmental analysis and general academic/life science research.

CentrifugesCentrifuges are used to separate particulates suspended in a liquid via the application of a centrifugal force including cells, macromolecules, nanoparticles and precipitates. Centrifuges come in three sizes: microcentrifuges, benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, depending on the volume and number of samples that require separation. When choosing a centrifuge, consider its maximum separation power indicated by its relative centrifugal force (RCF) value. Low force centrifuges reach a maximum RCF of 8,000 g, high-force centrifuges can reach maximum RCF values of 80,000 g. For extremely high forces, consider ultracentrifuges (up to 800,000 g). Refrigerated and vacuum centrifuges also known as concentrators are available for more specialized applications. A range of volumes are available for centrifuge tubes and microfuge tubes, depending on sample sizes. This is a useful technique for sample concentration or sample drying. Many centrifugal evaporators are modular with a central vacuum pump for generating low pressure. Useful features of evaporators or vacuum ovens include minimal solvent bumping, solvent resistance, computer control, temperature regulation and benchtop design.
