Product news

EKF Diagnostics, the global in vitro diagnostics company, will be highlighting its new Altair(tm) 240 clinical chemistry analyze alongside many of its other point-of-care (POC) and laboratory diagnostics products at Arab Health 2016, Dubai, 25 - 28th January.

The new fully automated Altair 240 bench-top analyzer will be available for demonstrations and discussion on Stand Z1G30 (Zabeel Hall 1). Also on the stand, EKF product specialist Trevor McCarthy will be presenting a 'Clinical Chemistry Product Portfolio Update' in a series of daily lunch and learn sessions.

Available globally, the Altair is a compact, open-channel, automatic random access analyzer which is supported by a full-range of bar-coded, liquid-stable, ready-to-use Stanbio Chemistry reagents. Waste is minimized since it uses reusable cuvettes and most reagents have a 30-day on-board stability. Running up to 400 tests per hour (with an optional Ion Sensitive Electrode (ISE) module) with positions for 43 reagents and the ability to configure open channels for esoteric testing needs, the Altair(tm) 240 provides a comprehensive clinical chemistry solution for a variety of settings.

Also at Arab Health, EKF will be discussing its portfolio of products used in Diabetes Care. This includes POC analyzers which deliver fast and reliable results for glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and glucose, enabling both practitioner and patient to make clinical or lifestyle decisions in minutes. The EKF Diabetes Care portfolio also includes clinical chemistry used in diabetes care such as Beta-Hydroxybutyrate LiquiColor(r), (B-HB) reagent, and Glycated Serum Protein (GSP) which provides a two to three-week indicator of average blood glucose.

On Stand Z1G30 (Zabeel Hall 1), Trevor McCarthy, Business Segment Manager for Central Laboratory, will be giving a 'Clinical Chemistry Product Portfolio Update' on the new Altair 240 clinical chemistry analyzer, as well as B-HB, GSP and PCT (procalcitonin) liquid reagents. These lunchtime presentations will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the show from 12:30-13:30, with refreshments followed by a Q&A session. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see EKF's Point-of-care range, including Quo-Lab(tm) and Quo-Test(tm) HbA1c analyzers, as well as its Biosen series of glucose analyzers and Hemo Control hemoglobin analyzer.

"We look forward to welcoming visitors at Arab Health to our stand and demonstrating how our broad range of point-of-care and central laboratory products have earned a well-deserved reputation globally for ease of use, reliability and accuracy," commented Trevor McCarthy. "For example, 80,000 of our POC analyzers are used regularly in over 100 countries to run more than 50 million tests annually, and our B-HB reagent is used frequently on open channel analyzers in 1,100 hospitals in the United States alone."

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Useful system features include high-throughput, automation, robotic arms, automated liquid handling and associated database systems. Accessories in sample management include barcode scanners, heat sealers and tubes.HematologyIn Haematology / Hematology, complete blood cell counts (or full blood counts) are obtained using automated blood count analyzers to enumerate blood cell types.  Hematology also encompasses haemostasis and coagulation, thrombophilia and hemophilia, plasma viscosity and ESR analysis, hemoglobinopathies, cell morphology and haematinic measurement.Point-of-CarePoint-of-Care Testing (POCT) or Near Patient Testing (NPT) products are available for urine, blood and other clinical chemistry analyses. POCT includes: blood glucose testing, blood gas and electrolytes analysis, rapid coagulation testing (PT / INR), rapid cardiac markers diagnostics, drugs of abuse screening, urine strips testing, pregnancy testing, fecal occult blood analysis, food pathogens screening, hemoglobin diagnostics, infectious disease testing and cholesterol screening.Robotic InstrumentsRobotic instruments can be used for high-throughput automation of many lab processes. Such processes use instruments for assays like cell based assays and ELISA, for sample preparation like shakers, centrifuges and incubators, and for analysis such as sequencing and western blot analyzers. Useful features of robotic instruments include speed, reproducibility, barcode readers, software and automation.Automated Liquid HandlingAutomated liquid handling equipment is used to mix, dilute and dispense allotted volumes of liquid into microplates and other vessels automatically.
