Part 1: Size exclusion chromatography with light scattering for biopharmaceuticals
September 15, 2025, at 16:00 BST / 17:00 CEST / 11:00 EDT / 08:00 PDT
Biopharmaceuticals based on monoclonal antibodies, lipid nanoparticle-encapsulated mRNA, and transgene-carrying viral vectors, are significantly larger than traditional small-molecule drugs. This size difference requires specialized analytical tools. Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) is particularly effective for studying proteins and has recently been adapted to analyze complex macromolecular assemblies like mRNA and DNA.
Join us for this exciting two-part webinar series where Dr. Jelle De Vos from RIC group and Dr. Sonja Schneider from Agilent Technologies will discuss how SEC is evolving to meet the demands of modern biopharma. In Part 1, our experts will cover the fundamentals of SEC and demonstrate how combining it with light scattering detection can enhance the characterization and development of biopharmaceuticals.

- Scientists and researchers in biotherapeutics R&D using SEC/light scattering.
- Lab and quality leaders, including lab managers, directors, and QA/QC professionals in biopharma production.
What will this webinar cover?
Key learning objectives of Part 1:
- Fundamentals of SEC: Understand the underlying theory and principles, along with the instrumentation used.
- Key aspects of SEC: Learn about particle size, pore size, column length, and factors affecting solute retention.
- Advanced techniques: Discover how multidetector setups incorporating light scattering can determine absolute molecular weight independent of column retention volumes.
Join the webinar to get answers to these questions:
- What are the core principles and theory behind size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)?
- How do particle size, pore size, and column length influence SEC performance and solute retention?
- Which instrumental components are critical for robust SEC of modern biopharmaceuticals?
- How does coupling SEC with light scattering enable absolute molecular weight determination?
- In what ways can SEC/light scattering improve characterization and development of complex biologics such as mAbs, mRNA, and viral vectors?
