Thermal stability analysis of antibodies using differential scanning calorimetry
7 May 2026This application note explores the use of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to assess the thermal stability and structure‑function relationships of antibodies. Using the Nano DSC system, the study demonstrates how unfolding transitions, thermodynamic parameters, and domain‑level interactions can be characterized with high sensitivity. The method provides insight into antibody conformational stability by analyzing thermal denaturation profiles and deconvoluting complex thermograms, supporting applications in biopharmaceutical development, formulation optimization, and quality assessment.

Thermal Analysis EquipmentThermal analysis equipment is used for measuring heat flow, weight loss, dimension changes or thermomechanical properties and is important for analyzing a material’s performance and stability. Thermal analysis equipment includes differential scanning calorimeters (DSC), thermogravimetric analyzers (TGA), thermomechanical analyzers (TMA), dilatometers, thermometers, vapor sorption analyzers, boiling and melting point apparatus. Thermal analyzers can reveal properties such as melting, crystallization and glass transitions or other processes such as oxidation, decomposition, volatilization, as well as coefficients of thermal expansion and modulus. The most well known example of a biopharmaceutical product, and the first to be approved for therapeutic use, was recombinant human insulin.
