Highly polar antibiotic separation

25 Mar 2022

In this application note, an LC-MS separation of the highly polar antibiotics amikacin and tobramycin is presented using the Cogent Diamond Hydride Column. The two peaks are baseline separated chromatographically, but further specificity is also obtained by the use of extracted ion chromatograms (EICs) for the [M+H]+ ion of each compound.

Cogent Diamond Hydride™ HPLC Columns

MicroSolv Technology Corp.

Cogent Diamond Hydride HPLC Columns are manufactured with TYPE-C™ silica (silica hydride) and a very small amount of carbon on the surface that adjusts the column hydrophobicity to an important level. This makes these columns have unique separation capabilities for scientists working in LCMS, metabolomics, bioanalytical, amino acids, organic acids, carbohydrates, and very polar small molecules.
