In this application note, Thermo Fisher Scientific presents a reliable mass spectrometry-based method for detecting SARS-CoV-2 peptides, crucial biomarkers for active COVID-19 infection. The study demonstrates the detection of six peptides from recombinant protein samples spiked onto nasopharyngeal swabs or saliva, placed in viral transport media, and enzymatically digested. The results show sub/low-femtomole on-column detection and quantification limits for each peptide, showcasing the potential of utilizing the TSQ Altis™ MD mass spectrometer for COVID-19 testing.
