ZEN core is a software suite for connected microscopy from the materials lab to production. ZEN core handles more than just microscopy imaging. It is the most comprehensive suite of imaging, segmentation, analysis, and data connectivity tools for multi-modal microscopy in connected material laboratories and lets you benefit from an easy to configure and easy to use adaptive user interface, advanced imaging, and automated analysis.
Put this powerful software, with its ease of use and straightforward design, together with established ZEISS hardware and you will experience all-out best-in-class microscopy. For everyday use when you’re running routine tasks with repeatable results, ZEN core keeps it simple and gives you total efficiency.
But when you need to tease out the highest technical performance from your microscope, ZEN core delivers maximum flexibility with access to every functionality and parameter you might wish to optimize.
ZEN core lets you create task-specific "workbenches" that show only the required microscope controls on the screen. Combine these workbenches to create dedicated "jobs" to guide your operator through a defined flow of consecutive tasks.
A dedicated user management allows you to set permissions so that each operator will have access to exactly the workbenches and jobs he needs.
Optionally expand your possibilities with correlative microscopy between your digital, light and electron microscopes and gain process security using the GxP module.
Brochures
Streamline imaging, EDS and analysis
In this product brochure, ZEISS Research Microscopy Solutions demonstrates ZEN core for electron microscopes, a universal, highly flexible software designed to operate any ZEISS light or electron microscope and control your instruments with a single, standardized user interface.
Software-based segmentation of metallic inclusions of additive manufactured alloys – linking microstructure and materials properties
In this white paper, ZEISS Research Microscopy Solutions demonstrates how advanced image analysis techniques based on artificial intelligence (AI) can be used for segmenting inclusions in a metal alloy. In this experiment the software ZEN Intellesis, a module of the AI Toolkit of ZEN core and ZEISS arivis Cloud were used as image processing software.
Connected productivity in the materials lab
In this product brochure, ZEISS Research Microscopy Solutions demonstrates the ZEN core, a powerful ecosystem that benefits both non-experts and experts, able to handle routine and advanced image acquisition and analysis tasks across various ZEISS systems while maximizing technical performance.
Advancing materials engineering with microscopy

Characterization of powdered bulk materials using light and scanning electron microscopy
In this application note, ZEISS provides experimental data on the characterization of powdered bulk materials using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The bulk density and flow behavior are important parameters for characterizing powders used in powder-technology-based production processes such as the additive laser powder bed fusion process because these parameters essentially determine the workability of the powder across a wide range of production processes. Good flow behavior is of particular importance for powder-bed-based additive production processes for handling the powder and applying the powder layers, while a high bulk density is extremely important for manufacturing non-porous components.
