"This kit has very easy-to-follow instructions and can be used with a tabletop microcentrifuge, no refrigeration required. As such, it's among the easier reactions that I've run. This kit will generate very clean RNA for use in PCR and qPCR reactions (I haven't used it for other things). I used the kit to isolate RNA from tissue and to clean up TRIzol-extracted RNA samples. For cleanup, this kit always worked and generated high quality RNA if I performed all of the optional steps and repeated the final elution twice after letting the elution buffer sit for 1 minute before spinning. If I did not let the elution buffer sit for 1 minute, my yields were lower. I recommend this kit as a great standard kit for RNA extraction and cleanup, with or without TRIzol; however, I feel that Zymo and Omega Bio-tek now offer kits of the same high quality for a lower price. I have not called Qiagen for after-sales services."

"I use this kit to extract RNA from plant tissue. This kit is really easy to use, it takes about half an hour from tissue homogenation to final RNA elution fro 8 samples. I have never had any problems with degradation. I have always had good results in finding the transcript isoforms. However I do not really like the customer help from Qiagen because they do not think outside the box with problem solving- it is always that solutions are old. But I would recommend this product for total RNA isolation."
