I wouldn't want to teach FTIR without this.

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Teaching for analytical and organic chemistry

The Quest Diamond ATR is a great addition to FTIR for teaching as it is durable and high throughput. Students find it easy to master using the instrument when they don't have to use salt plates or make pellets. It has increased student understanding for FTIR spectra and sampling processes. I recommend anyone wishing to teach FTIR to undergraduate students to consider this product for improved sampling and increasing speed of samples.

High optical signal throughput and smart optical design

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Cure test for polymer coating

Compared to similar attachments to FTIR, Quest is one of the best (if not the best) in high optical signal throughput and signal-to-noise ratio. There is definitely some smart optical design involved. No breaks or any concerns within 2 years of daily operation.

Review Date: 17 Mar 2017 | Specac Ltd

In use daily, by students and for sensitive energetic materials. Great device.

Average Rating 4.7

Application Area:

Analytics of energetic compounds

This ATR module gave life back to our ancient FTIR spectroscope, which has been pretty much out of use for quite some time. The Specac module was simple to install, a distance plate which was missing (not fitting) on delivery was promptly sent to us - great customer support. All data recorded is reliable, the system is in use every day. Only the sample plate has stains so a different type of steel would have been nice. But all the working parts are reliable and the system is easy to clean, as you would expect from an ATR.

Brilliant product, very easy to use and very hard wearing

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

IR analysis of samples in undergraduate teaching labs

This product is fantastic, we replaced the old plates in our IRs with these as they were continuously getting damaged and misused in the teaching labs. These diamond ATR units are practically indestructible and extremely easy to clean and can be swapped out for liquid or gas cells very easily.

Review Date: 22 Dec 2016 | Specac Ltd

Has allowed successful experiments under our time constraints.

Average Rating 4.7

The Quest™ ATR is a single-reflection ATR accessory from Specac designed for routine use in academic and industrial laboratories. With features designed to inspire confidence in the quality of results and reliability in use, this product sets the benchmark in performance and value in FTIR-ATR Spectroscopy.

Three key features of the Quest ™ ATR:

  • Monolithic diamond ATR crystals that are both chemically resilient and scratch-resistant, as well as extremely tough, being able to sustain the high point loads encountered when sampling hard, irregular solids.
  • Interchangeable crystal pucks. Our ever-growing range of options currently includes ZnSe for soft materials, Ge for highly absorbing samples, and options for liquid containment and specular reflectance.
  • Repeatable and reproducible sample loads are enabled by the pressure tower. This has an audible 'click' to indicate the preset pressure limit and features a swing anvil arm to allow easy access to the ATR crystal puck.
  • Both plane and pellet anvils are provided with the accessory to allow analysis of samples of various shapes. These anvils are easily interchangeable and stored on the top plate when not in use.
  • Now available with high temperature diamond and ZnSe pucks for analysis of samples up to 110 degrees Celsius.

Polymer Sample Identification Using Quest ATR from Specac: Part 1 of 3

IR spectroscopy is a useful tool for group chemical species identification of a wide variety of sample materials, particularly for the classification of “organic” chemical materials based upon carbon atoms being present in the molecular structure. Many plastic and polymeric type samples which can be included in the category of organic molecular materials can be classified into particular “family” groupings and it is possible to identify the sample family types both qualitatively and quantitatively by use of the Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) technique as an IR measurement. In this application note the Specac Quest ATR accessory with diamond crystal puck was used for measurement of a variety of plastic/polymer sample types.
