Analysis of photocatalysts and photochemical reactions
The modular spectrophotometer is really easy to use, has nice sensitivity, high signal-to-noise ratio, and it provides great flexibility. In the lab we have used it in various set-ups in transmission, absorbance and fluorescence modes for both solid and liquid samples. It is wonderful to teach and show students all they can do with a modular set-up and their creativity! Highly recommended.

Although custom QE Pro options are available, you also can choose from among various models -- including several new options -- that are preconfigured for common applications and wavelengths:
- Absorbance
- Fluorescence
- New! General-purpose UV-Vis (200-775 nm)
- New! General-purpose Vis-NIR (350-925 nm)
- New! Extended-range (200-950 nm)
- New! Raman (w/785 nm excitation)
The sensitivity and large dynamic range of the QE Pro combine to make it the highest-performance modular spectrometer in its class. Key features include advanced optoelectronics and thermoelectric cooling to provide thermal stability, and onboard spectral buffering to ensure data integrity at high collection rates.
Raman spectroscopy for reaction advancement monitoring
This application note details the use of Raman spectroscopy to elucidate details of the epoxy curing process in real-time. This utility can be easily extended to other types of reactive processes, even those that are faster than this relatively slow epoxy vitrification.
Raman analysis of pharmaceutical ingredients
In this application note, Ocean Insight illustrates the capabilities of Raman spectroscopy in the analysis of pharmaceutical active ingredients. With the additional insight Raman analysis provides, manufacturers can better control pharma formulation and processing, helping to maintain quality and consistency.
Qualifying the performance of the QE Pro-Raman+ Spectrometer
In this application note, Ocean Insights demonstrates the key performance improvements in the QE Pro-Raman+ compared to a similar back-thinned CCD array spectrometer over a series of Raman measurements.
Characterization of Diesel Fuel Using a Modular Raman System
Raman spectroscopy is an excellent technique for the identification and characterization of fuels. With no requirement for sample preparation and the power to identify and quantify materials, it is no surprise that Raman has found so many uses in a range of industries.
Raman Analysis of Pharmaceutical Ingredients
A range of options are available for Raman analysis, including systems suitable for handheld, laboratory and educational applications. Systems typically include a spectrometer, laser, operating software and sampling accessories, while modular options are available for users to configure their own Raman systems. Setups are available for various wavelength ranges and resolution requirements.
Noise in Spectrometers - Part 2
Noise in Spectrometers - Part 1
Unavoidable is the thermal, random motion of the electrons in the detector, which leads to signals that are not caused by light, often referred to as the “dark” signal. The dark signal is usually determined in a separate measurement without a light source, but due to its random nature this dark signal introduces noise in the spectrum. While the dark spectrum is generally subtracted from spectra prior to further analysis, its variability introduces some uncertainty into each measurement.
