Tech support is non-existent
Application Area: Bioprinting
"When we first purchased our BioX, the service was great, but now I can't get anyone from tech support to help us with a machine issue. If you're in the market for a bioprinter, look elsewhere because you won't get help after they get your money."

Great! Can't wait to do more bioprinting
Application Area:3D models of tissue and drug formulation
"The printer was installed very recently, so we are only starting to use it. The training provided by the engineers from CELLINK was awesome. We have access to a lot of online resources and CELLINK people are very helpful and happy to give advice. We have the BIO X and the LUMEN X: both are really intuitive to use and the fact that they do not need networking and/or interfacing with a computer is definitely a bonus for us (saves bench space). We are looking forward to doing more on the two instruments and to collaborating with CELLINK."

A user-friendly 3D bioprinter with some minor problems.
Application Area:3D printing of drug releasing implants
"BIO X is very user-friendly, and has a good resolution. However, it has a couple of problems, mainly software problems. The computer software interface is not advanced and there are few advanced options for slicing. As a result, I use other slicer software to make my final Gcode and then use it in the USB drive of the BIO X. The updates on the BIO X have had some issues so far: in version 6 droplet printing was not working and in version 7 regular pneumatic printing was not working properly; I was forced to upgrade and downgrade frequently to be able to use both features. As it is a new product and the troubleshooting directory of the device is not complete yet, even though the customer service team is very supportive, it usually takes longer than usual for them to come up with a solution. However, I think that they are doing great in terms of trying for troubleshooting software and hardware malfunctions. I think that by addressing the mentioned problems, BIO X will be a great choice as a bioprinter."

Great bioprinter for ease of use and high adaptability!
Application Area:Bioprinting in vitro tissue models
"Great bioprinter. Having used a number of different printers in the past, it is definitely the easiest I have had to use regarding both setup and software. The inbuilt touch screen allows for modifications to be made between (or even during) prints which is a life saver when printing cells that may be limited in number due to their origin. Loading the print cartridges is easy and for non-sterile test prints can be used over and over again. Our lab uses the regular 3 ml print heads and also the thermoplastic extruder. Considering it is an air-driven bioprinter, not a regular filament printer, the pressures it can reach are completely sufficient for printing everything from hydrogels to pcl WITHOUT having to use an extra pump. Finally, it has a nice small footprint without wasting space, such that it fits inside a regular cell culture hood. Would definitely recommend!"

Robust, quick, does a great job, fun to play with, easy and good looking!
Application Area:Cancer modeling
"The BIO X is extremely user friendly in terms of both software and build quality. Surprisingly easy to start printing, very reproducible once you've determined several settings and parameters and very quick as well. As a biologist without too much interest and time to play with tech gadgets, I really appreciate the fact that I don't have to spend hours sorting out technical issues and instead I can really focus on the scientific side of things. Having said that, for future projects the BIO X will let us have quite a lot of flexibility so we can easily get into the deep waters of 3D modeling in great detail and we can print very complex and precise structures as opposed to printing 50 mini-tumours in 10 minutes which is what we currently do. The BIO X seems to be a rather well-built and robust machine so after sales care/maintenance is close to zero. In terms of value for money, we always want things to be cheaper (4 and 1/2 stars), but considering that there are not that many commercially available 3D bioprinters at the moment, the BIO X has definitely got the best value for money ratio on the market. We've had great communication with CELLINK, they have provided absolutely top class support, the company is constantly growing and developing so we have no doubts whatsoever that our investment is the best possible one. Looking forward to exploring new research opportunities and tackling more and harder challenges with our BIO X and CELLINK! Thanks guys!"

All purpose Bioprinter!
Application Area:3D bioprinting of human tissues/organs
"I am a Research Scientist at Pandorum Technologies Pvt. Ltd., which is one of the leading tissue engineering & regenerative medicine start-ups in India. The company’s focus diverges into two main projects, i.e. bioartificial liver and cornea. Additive manufacturing is mainly employed for the bioartificial corneal project. The main aim of the project is to deliver a clinical-grade bioengineered cornea to bridge the current gap between the requirement and the available donor corneas in case of injury or corneal defect/disease. This gap at present is in the order of millions across the globe and Pandorum aims at solving this problem. After reviewing the global leaders of 3D bioprinter manufacturers and detailed discussion on the company’s applicability, CELLINK’s BIO X was chosen by Pandorum. Bioprinting of the corneal lenticule using optimized hydrogel formulation on specially designed moulds was made possible through the BIO X with its wide range of available nozzles and print heads. The thermoplastic and the EMD printheads have also been very beneficial in our scaffold printing projects. CELLINK has also been impeccably helpful with its online assistance to address any queries. With BIO X’s success, we are looking forward to maintaining a fruitful relationship with CELLINK."

Product of thoughtful engineering! User-friendly and versatile.
Application Area:Bioprinting
"In my everyday work, I need to spend a lot of hours bioprinting various geometries and materials, and the BIO X from CELLINK makes my job convenient and enjoyable. I have worked extensively with the BIO X system bioprinting materials ranging from polymer-ceramic composites (PCL+HA, PLA+HA, PCL+Bioglass, etc.) to stimuli-responsive hydrogels. In my experience of working with various bioprinters available in the market, the BIO X is quite clearly the most user-friendly system. The enjoyable experience is complemented by a dedicated support and service team that is always ready to help troubleshoot and offer technical advice. The BIO X, in a sense, provides the best rapid experience by allowing users to transform their design files to finished constructs in no time. The service team has been extremely patient and responsive while answering questions regarding issues we typically face in the lab. In my opinion, the BIO X is a product of thoughtful engineering combined with an attractive sense of aesthetic. It is undoubtedly the most versatile system out there in the market with the ability to dispense numerous materials at varied processing conditions on a variety of substrates. Every lab considering to buy a bioprinter should take a hard look at the BIO X system. It has also been a great pleasure to know some fantastic people working at the company. On behalf of all my lab members and doctoral advisor, I would like to thank Cellink for providing us with an ideal platform to pursue our research."

Easy to use to start bioprinting
Application Area:Scaffold printing
"The BioX is extremely easy to use straight out of the box. I was able to get a couple of hydrogels printing within the first couple hours using the equipment. When new users are interested in learning to bioprint, this is the printer I start them out on before introducing them to more complex instruments. Of course, the simplicity to use comes with some slight drawbacks. The BioX doesn't give quite as many options to use multiple materials in a single print like you can achieve with some other printers. The material choices are restricted to the infill, perimerter, and support of your single object that you are printing. Other printers enable printing of multiple objects at once with different materials, giving you slightly more options. However, those attributes are only necessary in certain applications, so we've found good uses for the BioX that complement our use of other bioprinters. For the price, this one is extraordinarily difficult to beat."

Great product, very flexible, and awesome customer feedback followup
Application Area:Bioprinting and Tissue Engineering
"We use the BioX for a lot of our bioprinting projects, from bone to liver and vascular tissue analogs. We routinely do multi-ink prints, with both commercial and experimental bioinks, so it is important for our group to have precise control over temperature, extrusion speed, crosslinking mode (UV/Blue/Green light) and resolution. The BioX and its printheads do deliver on all those points very well. It is a straightforward machine to use and for simpler bioprints it would be able to generate a successful construct pretty much out of the box. A big draw of the system is the stellar customer support that they provide. Printer setup is usually done by a technician that will come in person to set it up, level and explain how to do basic maintenance. We have had several issues, usually software bugs, or minor hardware issues, but in each case a support tech followed up within a day of the email and they worked towards a resolution that was to our satisfaction. They are even willing to prototype unique printheads for specific applications, which is something I have seen only from very high end tool makers in the semiconductor field. If there is a legitimate drawback to the system, it is that is still doesn't have a well fleshed out stand-alone software that can control the printer, do slicing, and print file prep. We currently have to use Repetier to produce the gcodes (a software should be releasing soon according to CELLINK). It could take some time to initially setup the ecosystem for the printer (BioX + slicing software + 3D modeling software) for complex research or production bioprints. All in all, the BioX has been an awesome addition to our workflow for its price, and is high on our list of future purchases as our research needs and planned biomanufacturing core expand."

The Best 3D Bioprinting Machine I have come across!
Application Area:Biomaterials 3D Printability Analysis
"The new design of the BIO X is very appealing to me personally. I love using the large touch screen display! In addition to being easy to use, friendly and intuitive, the BIO X software provides lots of great features that I find enjoyable to experiment with while printing different structures. The available three printheads allow for appreciable versatility in printing complicated 3D biostructures using different materials. To my experience, it is rarely the case that the printed tissue/biostructure differs from the 3D model given to the printer, and when it happens it is usually my fault at not choosing the appropriate temperature/pressure mix for the printing process. I am looking forward to all those new products that the company has promised us to release soon including their HD camera and ink-jet printheads! Oh and one more thing, the sales team are doing great an extraordinary job at explaining features, helping with my questions and troubleshooting problems that I have encountered during my use of their products. Their quick and resolute help and support are much appreciated! Thanks CELLINK team for your awesome product and support!"
