Great product, Low price, and High quality

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Making pellets for material synthesis and solid-state batteries

This instrument is very easy to use, and it is designed to be compact and small, so we can put it inside the glove box to make pellets for air-sensitive materials, such as sulfide solid electrolytes. The maximal pressure can go to 15 tons, which is totally enough for common use. The price is very very reasonable and affordable. Love this instrument.

Robust piece of equipment

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Color berger color testing creating a pellet.

The product over all has been robust, with multiple users in the lab and constant use the equipment has not had any issues. One thing that was created for the lab was a step guide on how to use it based on our needs for training and referencing. The area that it is in is a 5S station so it is kept clean and ready for others to use.

Great product

Average Rating 5.0

Application Area:

Battery research

Easy to use, smart design. We use the pellet die to make lithium ion batteries materials powder into pellet. By using the hydraulic press, the pellets form very good shape and strength, which can be operated later in other processes.

Overall robust and continues to work as new after 5 years

Average Rating 4.7

Application Area:

Materials testing lab for nanotechnology engineering students

Product is easy to use and provides reproducible results. We have not had any issues with it and still works as if brand new and we've had it for 5 years. The only problem we've had is some rust build up which is the results of a lab humidity issue.

The Specac Manual Hydraulic Press is available in 15 and 25 ton load configurations for a wide variety of laboratory pressing applications. It is ideally suited to the manufacture of KBr pellets for FTIR spectroscopy as well as sample pellets and targets for other spectroscopic techniques such as XRF, Terahertz, and laser ablation spectroscopy. With additional equipment such as the Heated Platens and Constant Thickness Film Makers, it becomes suitable for analysis of polymers and thin films. In addition to all these, the sensitivity and accuracy of load application facilitates other laboratory tasks, including assembly and fabrication, powder synthesis, and tablet compaction for pharmaceutical tests.

Pharmaceutical Formulations as 7mm and 13mm KBr Pellet Preparations for Comparison

IR spectroscopy is a useful tool for group chemical species identification of a wide variety of sample materials, particularly for the classification of “organic” chemical materials based upon carbon atoms being present in the molecular structure. A classic sampling technique for the study of solid sample types by IR transmission spectroscopy is to prepare the solid sample as a potassium bromide (KBr) disc or pellet to mount appropriately and correctly within the sampling area of an infrared spectrometer. This application note shows how a few examples of pharmaceutical formulations as tablets/pills and capsules can be prepared to form both 7mm and 13mm KBr sample pellets produced for comparison.

Application Note

Simulated Long Term Storage Condition Block Test for Ink Transfer and Film Adhesion Properties on a Flexographic Printed Film – Part 1

The ink blocking test evaluates the adhesive properties of inks on the substrate. In this application note describes the use of a Specac hydraulic press and heated platens with automatic temperature controller which enables simulation of life time storage conditions to be carried out on printed film. The flexographic printing process is commonly used for film printing because it is quick and relative cheap in terms of design changeover.
