Growing cells in air-liquid interfaces and migration assays
The thincerts by Greiner are perfect to grow your cells in an air-liquid interface. They are high quality and capable of maintaining the cells intact for longer times. Because they are hanging inserts, it makes them user friendly as it is extremely easy to place them and changing plates with the use of a forcep.

Great equipment, essential and helpful for my experiments
Analyze cytokine release
The thincerts from Greiner Bio-One GmbH are very easy to use in cell culture with high quality and relatively reasonable price. I need the thincerts quite often to analyze cytokine release in my experiments. It always gives me great results. I highly recommend the ThinCerts cell culture inserts which are suitable for a wide range of applications including transport, secretion and diffusion studies, migrational experiments, cytotoxicity testing, co-cultures, transepithelial electric resistance (TEER) measurements, as well as primary cell culture. Greiner Bio-One GmbH offers thincerts with different pore sizes and densities, they fit 6, 12 as well as 24 well plates.

Greiner Bio-One’s – ThinCert Tissue Culture Inserts consist of a porous membrane support that are significant in that they form a two compartment system to readily mimic several in vivo situations and restore native cell growth conditions in vitro. The specific features of ThinCert cell culture inserts, such as the hanging self-lift geometry and the large opening for pipette accessibility, guarantee their ease of handling.
High quality standards during the process of manufacture assure an excellent reproducibility of results obtained with Greiner ThinCert® cell culture inserts. ThinCert cell culture inserts are available in multiple well formats (6, 12, 24 well) and membrane properties with nominal pore sizes of 0.4, 1.0, 3.0 and 8.0 µm. Further Cell Culture Inserts with a Collagen Type I coating are available.
The reconstruction and immunocytochemical characterization of polarised epithelia in ThinCert cell culture inserts
In this application note, Greiner Bio-One GmbH presents ThinCert® inserts for biologically relevant in vitro approaches as alternatives to animal experimentation. The note highlights specific protein localization to demonstrate epithelial polarization, showcasing the effectiveness of ThinCert® inserts in reconstructing epithelia and restoring biological functions in vitro.
Transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) with ThinCert cell culture inserts and the cellZscope system
In this application note, ThinCert® cell culture inserts by Greiner Bio-One GmbH are highlighted for their ability to recreate in vivo-like growth conditions in vitro, facilitating the reconstruction of epithelia and endothelia from individual cells. Cultivated cell layers develop tissue-specific features such as tight junctions, cellular polarity, and barrier function, making them ideal for studying tissue-specific phenomena like vectorial transport. Impedance based analyses may hold promise for non-invasively assessing cellular properties correlated with altered conductivity or cell shape in the future.
High-throughput in vitro airway modelling with ThinCert 96 Well HTS Insert
Growing cells in an air-liquid interface (ALI) is a popular method to generate a stable and functional model of the respiratory tract by recreating a pseudostratified epithelium in vitro. Greiner Bio-One explores how ALI cell cultures are cultivated on a porous membrane insert (ThinCert® 96 well HTS Insert).

The ThinCert HTS Inserts, available in pore sizes of 3 µm and 8 µm, have been designed for the specific needs of motility studies in drug screening, angiogenesis studies, and cancer research.
High-throughput cell migration assay with ThinCert 96 Well HTS Insert
The ThinCert® 96 Well HTS Insert presents a novel high-throughput solution for conducting migration studies with unprecedented efficiency through the parallelization and miniaturization of experimental setups. The transparent porous membrane establishes consistent chemotactic gradients, providing researchers with the opportunity to delve into cell migration dynamics with improved precision and minimized experimental variability. In this application note, Greiner Bio-One presents a comprehensive step-by-step protocol detailing the utilization of the HTS Insert for migration studies emphasizing its seamless integration into high-throughput workflows.
Co-Culture in ThinCert Cell Culture Inserts
Co-cultures with cell culture inserts are widely used to study mesenchymal-epithelial interactions during normal and tumoral development. In this application note such a co-culture model using MCF7 mammary carcinoma cells, human fibroblasts and ThinCert™ cell culture inserts from Greiner Bio-One GmbH is described. The results show that the use of ThinCert™ cell culture inserts with small pores (0.4 µm) guarantees that primarily paracrine signaling and not direct cell-cell contact accounts for the observed effects.
A Quantitative Cell Migration Assay Using ThinCert™ Cell Culture Inserts
With ThinCertTM cell culture inserts Greiner Bio-One offers a high quality solution for multiple applications in cell biology, including cell migration and invasion studies. Here, an application protocol for the quantification of migratory cells with ThinCertTM cell culture inserts is provided. The several application examples discussed here indicate the excellent suitability of ThinCertTM cell culture inserts for cell migration studies and the reproducibility of the obtained results.
A Quantitative Cell Invasion Assay Using ThinCert™ Cell Culture Inserts
This application note demonstrates a quantitative invasion assay performed with ThinCert™ cell culture inserts in a 24 well format. Thereby, the cells of interest are sowed onto the ECM coated PET membrane of the cell culture insert. Invasive cells are able to degrade the ECM and migrate to the underside of the membrane into the lower compartment that contains a chemoattractant. Subsequently the cells are fluorescently labelled, dislodged from the membrane and quantified in a fluorescence plate reader.
Tissue Reconstruction Using ThinCert™ Cell Culture Inserts and Plates
The applications presented within in this application note illustrate the multiple advantages and possibilities of ThinCert™ Cell Culture products for organotypic tissue culture and tissue reconstruction. The protocols provide detailed instructions that can easily be adapted to suit research interests other than buccal mucosa and skin reconstruction.
