qPCR and NGS experiments
The dispense is accurate with aqueous liquid but not with solution of high affinity with plastic like DMSO. The droplets will stick to the side of the tip and build up in volume. A large limitation is that it can only dispense bulk fluid. The software has bugs and safety measures are not enough to avoid crashes of parts.

Thank you for your feedback on DMSO dispensing. In addition to the standard silicone chips, we offer PFE-diaphragm chips for dispensing harsh solvents such as DMSO. Using the incorrect chip can cause the problems you have reported. For any software or general concerns, please contact support@formulatrix.com for help.
Reproducible results, low CVs, good for handling low volumes.
Molecular biology
We're currently using the product for small scale RT-PCR reaction set-ups in 384 well plates. The instrument shows high reproducibility, low CV, and is great for reducing plastic usage and reagents. The speed of the dispensing is good for lower volumes, but not as much for higher volumes. We've previously tested the continuous flow chip and haven't had great success, but looking to revisit and possibly optimize in the future. Overall pleased with the instrument. The service contracts are pricey compared to the cost of the instrument and not sure if they serve a lot of value.

Application: the Mantis' software has a clean user interface that is very easy to use. Your dispenses definitley rely on optimizing the dispense parameters. CF and both 1ml tips dispense provide for different needs. Definitley easy to set up by following the step by step set up guide from the screen. Hardware: Very compact.

Mastermix plate robot dispensing
There can sometimes be small issues with the Mantis if things are not exactly aligned correctly. We use our Mantises quite heavily and for the use, they do perform well. When we have had repeated issues, the customer service was quite helpful with phone consultations, followed by hands-on maintenance. All in all, we are satisfied customers. For other users: you will have to baby your Mantis along...they require TLC.

NGS library prep
While there is a learning curve to overcome, the Mantis provides very reproducible results. In our lab, it is used mostly for dispensing small volumes with large sample sets which comes in handy for NGS libraries. Post sales customer care was good. Our lab considers it to be excellent value for the money.

One of the main reasons I love using the Mantis liquid handler for my experiments is the incredibly low rates of technical variability that I obtain by using it to dispense my reagents. As an instrument, the Mantis liquid handler is easy to clean and maintain, the software is very intuitive and allows for great flexibility in reagent volumes to be dispensed. Even better, all the components you might need are easy to order and the machine itself is compact enough to keep at arm's reach on your bench!

Scaling up organoid culture using the MANTIS Liquid Handler: A case study with MIT
In this application note, Formulatrix describes how, using the MANTIS® liquid handler from FORMULATRIX, researchers within the Shalek laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) were able to rapidly screen >450 small molecules at a range of doses for their capacity to enhance differentiation of Paneth cells within small intestinal organoids.
