One of the best devices in my lab
Biochemistry
We got our Fluostar Omega in 2010. It has been in frequent regular use since then and was moved between three institutions. It never failed us. Last year we got it serviced for the first time because it made a rattling noise. Customer service was perfect. It is running smoothly again and I have hopes that it will survive beyond my retirement.

Excellent choice, which is very reliable. Best value for money!
Plate reading
We purchased this system more than 10 years ago and all its functions are regularly used. We never experienced any issue with this machine. We only did the regular maintenance and it never failed us so far. Although it is frequently used by inexperienced users (students internships) and people from other labs for single measurements. It is very user-friendly, easy to personalize for each user and always achieves excellent measurement if correctly used. The precision of this machine taught many students to put more effort in the precision of their cell culture pipetting.

The FLUOstar Omega multimode microplate reader provides users with unmatched flexibility and sensitivity to perform any assay needed in all microplate formats up to 1536-well.
ACU - Atmospheric Control Unit for Cell-based Assays
For cell-based assays, the FLUOstar Omega has a dual gas controller that independently regulates both CO2 and O2. With the microprocessor controlled ACU, oxygen levels can be monitored between 1% and 19%, and CO2 levels can be regulated between 0% and 20%.
Low Volume Measurements with the LVis Plate
For low volume measurements in assays like DNA, RNA, or protein concentration determination, the FLUOstar Omega can use BMG LABTECH’s LVis Plate. The LVis plate has sixteen microdrop wells in which two microliters of sample can be measured.
Upgrades
The Omega microplate reader series has a modular design concept. This enables the FLUOstar Omega to be fully upgradeable to the powerful POLARstar Omega, which can perform fluorescence polarization using Simultaneous Dual Emission detection. In addition, up two reagent injectors can be added for kinetic assays.
Software
The FLUOstar Omega comes with BMG LABTECH's license-free Omega Reader Control software and MARS Data Analysis Software. This highly intuitive software package provides limitless possibilities for test set up, but also offers easy one-click App buttons for the most common applications.
For cell-based assays, the FLUOstar Omega has a dual gas controller that independently regulates both CO2 and O2. With the microprocessor controlled ACU, oxygen levels can be monitored between 1% and 19%, and CO2 levels can be regulated between 0% and 20%.

Streamlining NGS Quality Management Using High-Throughput Fluorometric DNA/RNA Quantification
This application note looks at the quantification of nucleic acids for next-generation sequencing (NGS) applications using the FLUOstar Omega microplate reader. A fluorescent nucleic acid quantification was performed in high-throughput screening format and the results were integrated into the automatic workflow of NGS sample preparation. Here it was shown that combining Qubit assays with the FLUOstar Omega multi-mode microplate reader is ideally suited to measure a wide range of nucleic acids and improves compared to the single tube fluorometer on sensitivity, precision and speed. Especially large laboratories that perform automated high throughput sample preparation will profit from this technology.
