Research and development
This instrument is simple to use and maintain. It is particularly good for those researchers that may have only periodic use. It can be shut down at the end of a work day and started up the next day and be ready to operate within about 45 minutes if a tune is required or as in little as 30 minutes if no tuning is required. This makes the operation of the device much more cost effective than other systems that must run 24/7, 365. Multiple ion sources exist for a range of different types of analytes and for different sample introduction needs. It is nominal mass resolution, but holds a calibration very well. Tandem mass spectrometry would be really nice but confirmation of pure compounds infused or eluting can be done with alternating scans with different interface conditions that either promote intact molecules or fragmentation in the interface. One can also alternate positive ion and negative ion scans which provides a wider range of detection capability in a single run.

Good basic MS for research labs
Small molecule analysis, reaction monitoring
The instrument occupies a tiny bench space and generally works well for the 2 years we had it. It interfaces well with Agilent HPLC front end and a BioTage Isolera Dalton flash purification system. The sensitivity is more than enough for reaction monitoring and product characterization in a synthetic lab. Routine maintenance requirements were minimal, very suitable for "non-expert" users. Advion has multiple ion sources, sample introduction options, and accessories, which makes the daily use very easy and flexible. The software has a few bugs and may require a restart or reboot every week or two, but overall not too bad.

Analyze your compounds faster than LC/MS with TLC/MS
Plate Express™ is a device that provides a simple, automated means of obtaining mass spectra directly from TLC plates, combined with the Advion Interchim Scientific® expression® CMS (compact mass spectrometer) creating a technique known as TLC/CMS. Using this technique chemists can quickly and confidently identify products even in complex mixtures without additional sample preparation. This whitepaper explores the use of TLC/CMS as an alternative chromatography technology for faster, more efficient analysis over traditional LC/MS runs.
Intelligent flash purification using TLC and mass spectrometry
The compound synthesis, purification and confirmation process often presents challenges throughout. From ensuring successful synthesis of your product, setting up a flash purification method, and finally confirming ID of fractions, the lengthy work flow can be time consuming and repetitive. In this application note, Advion demonstrates a new work flow that offers seamless steps to quickly and easily drive the process from reaction monitoring to flash purification and fraction ID.
Improved Efficiency and Faster Answers: Compact Mass Spectrometry and UHPLC
In this application note a five component mixture was analyzed using the new single quadrupole mass spectrometer, the expression CMS from Advion, coupled with the Agilent 1290 Infinity UHPLC and Waters Acquity UPLC. The results show that UPLC-MS offers increased sensitivity and huge time savings over HPLC-MS.
Real-Time Monitoring of a Suzuki Reaction Utilizing a Hood-Based Compact Mass Spectrometer
This scientific poster demonstrates the abilities if a novel compact single quadrupole mass spectrometer for hood-based applications in the analysis of chemical reactions. Typically LC/UV/MS technology, used to prepare a high yield of product via an optimized synthetic route, is only available through a central core facility or a shared open access of systems. The work here describes the use of a new small compact single quadrupole electrospray mass spectrometer, the expression CMS from Advion, to monitor a representative Suzuki coupling reaction in real-time.
