I have been working on this equipment since 2019. The time to determine the mercury in a sample is relatively short, the calibration curve is stable for a long period of time 6-12 months. If you use small sample volumes, the amalgamator will last you a year, 400-500 samples.

Mercury levels in medical marijuana and associated products
The Milestone DMA80 can analyze any type of sample matrix all using a single unit, not a separate one for solid and another for liquid. It can handle soil, botanicals, liquids including oil and water and everything in between. As long as you take care to homogenize the sample completely, the reproducibility is phenomenal. The software is easy to use and has a touch screen that is easy to navigate. Data upload to a LIMS or other migration software technology is simple and the windows based software that comes with it has everything we need to evaluate the data and report quality control samples and calibration data. Our system is set up for control from laboratory notebooks so wherever we are in the lab, we can see the data as soon as it is completed the analysis. The DMA80 can be connected directly to an analytical balance for measuring sample weights directly into the software, no transcription errors! We were considering getting an ICP/MS for doing all elemental analysis, but we chose to go with an ICP/OES which is great for all other metals of interest. The great thing is that the ICP and DMA80 together cost less than an ICP/MS and the preparation and cleanup are much easier. With the sample matrices we test here, an ICP/MS would have been down for cleaning every other day. We definitely made a great decision. Our Sales Person Jesse was of tremendous help and even brought a demo instrument to our lab to show us how easy it is to set up and start analyzing billable samples. During the instrument install and training, we found out it has the capability to capture and analyze Mercury in air samples which is a huge extra bonus specific to the types of sample capture we perform here. We are currently waiting on the tubes used to capture Mercury in aerosol. I can't imagine how every other Environmental or ISO17025 Marijuana testing laboratory can do without this amazing product. Last but certainly not least is the amazing throughput and ultra-low detection limits. The only thing we didn't know ahead of time, was that it is necessary to have a small furnace to burn off any remaining sample matrix stuck to the nickel or quartz sample boats. So when you order yours, also order a small (1ft cubed area) furnace capable of accurate temperatures up to 700C.
