I'm very satisfied. Analysis and support is mostly top. It's easy to use. The software in particular is clear. At the moment I am very satisfied and do not regret the purchase. (since 2016) the only disadvantage is that the limits of quantification cannot always be met, e.g. calcium.

I have been really disappointed with Metrohm instruments lately. The 940 IC Vario is a good instrument. The pumps seem to prime quickly and don't lose prime like they used to. The vacuum pump error seems to have been fixed on the new instruments. My issue is that installation techs are not properly trained and add-on instruments do not work properly. When service is called they are more interested in what "you" are doing wrong, or if you used a part that was not brand new. The eluent generators do not work for Cation "empty" sensor set-ups. Greased or not greased, the 800 dosinos have a continuous stop-cock issue or loss of connection issue. Service threatens to charge you for a visit to repair (less than a month after installation) is you used a 800 dosino that is not new.

Inline Sample Preparation - Ion Chromatography User Guide

Crystal clear, clinically pure, no bacteria and no particles: this would be an ideal sample for ion chromatography. The real world is often different. Apart from the ions to be determined, the samples contain matrix components which may be aggressive or lead to precipitation in the system. They can sometimes make analysis difficult, if not impossible. Samples with a high load of matrix components can damage the separation column or lead to blockages in the system. That is why suitable sample preparation is essential for reliable and accurate analysis.

USP Modernization Initiative: Ionic Impurities in Drug Substances by Ion Chromatography

Chloride and sulfate are common impurities present in drug substances and drug products. Limit tests are based on turbidity and/or visual comparison methods as per USP general chapter. These methods lack specificity and data integrity. One of the main goals of the USP monograph modernization initiative is to replace non-specific methods with highly selective and sensitive instrumental analysis methods. We propose a selective and sensitive ion chromatography (IC) method for chloride and sulfate detection in drug substances, potassium carbonate and potassium bicarbonate. The proposed method can be used for other anionic impurities, such as fluoride, bromide, nitrate and nitrate, if needed.

Analysis of Anions and Oxoanions using Ion Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (IC-MS)

Ion Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (IC-MS) is a powerful tool to handle many challenging analytical tasks. Ion chromatography tackles difficult separation problems of various ionic species and typically works with conductivity detection. Mass detection as a secondary independent detector, confirms the identity of analytes in difficult matrices to ensure correct results. Even co-eluting components can be quantified and detection limits are considerably improved. Various ions, such as nitrate, phosphate, perchlorate, thiosulfate or thiocyanate are reliably separated and detected. Difficult matrices like soil or explosion residues can be removed with automated sample preparation techniques (e.g. with Inline Ultrafiltration or Dialysis). The technique is a robust and easy-to-use way to monitor anions and oxoanions in various matrices, e.g. in environmental, post-explosion and semiconductor samples.

Quantification of Glyphosate and AMPA in Drinking Water

The broad-spectrum herbicide glyphosate is a suspected carcinogen which has led to limit values for glyphosate in drinking water being imposed in many countries. This white paper details separation of glyphosate and AMPA (a metabolite of glyphosate) in the Metrosep Carb 2 separation column using an Ion Chromatography (IC) system consisting of a 940 Professional IC Vario ONE with pulsed amperometric detection (flexIPAD). This method detects very low concentrations and is reliable and inexpensive in comparison to HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography).

Metabisulfite as Sulfite in Pharmaceutical Ointments

Sodium metabisulfite or pyrosulfite is used as preservative and antioxidant in pharmaceutical products. In water metabisulfite is not stable and is rapidly converted to sulfite. This Application Note describes the determination of metabisulfite as sulfite in an ointment using the 940 Professional IC Vario from Metrohm. The ointment is dissolved in an aqueous solution containing formaldehyde to prevent sulfite from further oxidation.
