Waters Corporation has introduced Atlantis PREMIER BEH C18 AX Columns, the first offerings in the new Premier class of high-performance liquid chromatography products from Waters. The Waters Atlantis PREMIER BEH C18 AX Columns are mixed-mode, reversed-phase/anion exchange columns that combine new and innovative chromatographic particle technology with proprietary MaxPeakHigh-Performance Surfaces (HPS) hardware to boost retention of polar acidic compounds by 50% while eliminating unwanted interactions between analytes and the internal surface of the column.

“At the heart of every chromatographic method is the analytical column. Our mission is to continue innovating and helping researchers accelerate pharmaceutical methods development in support of new drug applications,” said Erin Chambers, Vice President, Chemistry. “The new technology embedded in our mixed mode Atlantis PREMIER BEH C18 AX Columns solves a difficult challenge and enables researchers to accurately separate and measure even hard-to-retain compounds better than ever before.”

Atlantis PREMIER BEH C18 AX Columns are the first UPLC/UHPLC/HPLC columns to feature MaxPeak HPS Technology, designed to eliminate unwanted analyte/column surface interactions, a common problem when separating many compounds, including polar acidic compounds such as phosphorylated and carboxylated acids, which tend to bind or adsorb to the inside walls of the analytical column. When this occurs, these analytes cannot be accurately quantified leading to erroneous and irreproducible results. Current methods for circumventing this problem are slow and cumbersome.

The new 95 Å ethylene bridged hybrid (BEH) chromatographic particle provides up to 50% more retention than conventional C18 columns under reversed-phase chromatographic conditions. This is especially important for quantifying low concentrations of analytes. The columns are 100% water-wettable and the hybrid particle operates within a pH range of 2 – 10 allowing for more flexibility in method development.

Atlantis BEH C18 AX Columns are now available worldwide from Waters and will be on public display for the first time at WCBP 2020 in Washington, D.C.

Atlantis™ Columns

Waters

Most chromatographers have experienced problems retaining and separating polar compounds using conventional reversed-phase chromatography.  These difficult-to-analyze compounds either pass through the column unretained or, if retained at all, co-elute at the beginning of the chromatogram.  Waters AtlantisTM columns are designed for these types of challenging separations and are available in two chemistries: dC18 and HILIC silica.  AtlantisTM dC18 columns are a fully LC/MS compatible line of difunctionally bonded C18 columns that exhibit superior retention of polar compounds under reversed-phase conditions.  AtlantisTM HILIC silica columns are designed for high throughput LC/MS applications where the high organic mobile phase conditions used in hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) are desired.  The use of HILIC mobile phases yields improved LC/ESI-MS response, direct compatibility with SPE solvents and complementary selectivity as compared to reversed-phase HPLC.  New Atlantis™ Intelligent Speed (IS) columns are powerful tools for the LC/MS scientist who is looking for faster methods and increased sample throughput.

ACQUITY UPLC® BEH C18 and C8 Columns

Waters

ACQUITY UPLC® BEH C18 and C8 columns were designed to be the universal columns of choice for most UPLC® separations by providing the widest pH range. They incorporate trifunctional ligand bonding chemistries which produce superior low pH stability and ultra-low column bleed. This low pH stability is combined with the high pH stability of the 1.7 µm BEH particle to deliver the widest usable pH operating range. In addition, these new chemistries also utilize new, proprietary endcapping processes which produce outstanding peak shape for bases. These bonding chemistries and particle synthesis innovations produce the sharpest peaks, highest efficiencies and maximum MS sensitivities.
