EMA 402XL, the world’s first macro CHNS elemental analyzer based on crucible technology
Velp Scientific has launched the EMA 402XL, the world’s first macro CHNS (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur) elemental analyzer based on crucible technology. With this breakthrough innovation, Velp has set a new benchmark in elemental analysis, enabling laboratories to achieve higher accuracy, greater sample representativeness, and unprecedented operational efficiency.
Elemental analysis plays a critical role in scientific research and industrial quality control across sectors such as environmental monitoring, energy, agriculture, chemicals, and advanced materials. However, conventional CHNS systems often struggle to deliver reliable and representative results when dealing with large, heterogeneous, or complex samples.
The EMA 402XL overcomes these limitations, and leverages crucible technology to enable the direct analysis of significantly larger sample quantities compared to traditional tin-foil-based systems.
This innovation enhances result representativeness, reduces sample preparation, and improves reproducibility — key factors for confident decision-making in research and industrial applications.
By combining high-temperature combustion up to 1350 °C, fully compliant with ASTM standards, with advanced detection technologies, the EMA 402XL delivers precise and reliable CHNS determination even under the most demanding analytical conditions.
Designed for high-throughput laboratories, the EMA 402XL features a 100-position autosampler supporting both sequential and non-sequential analysis with minimal operator intervention. From sample loading to ash removal, automated processes streamline workflows and maximize productivity.
The system’s robust architecture, front-access maintenance, and smart connectivity ensure long-term reliability and operational continuity, helping laboratories meet growing analytical demands with confidence.
The EMA 402XL supports a wide range of applications, including environmental analysis, agro-science, chemical and petrochemical testing, and waste characterization. Its ability to handle large and heterogeneous samples makes it ideal for analyzing soils, sediments, fuels, oils, coal, bio-based materials, and complex waste matrices.
Beyond CHNS determination, the analyzer enables monitoring of oxygen consumption during combustion, allowing the calculation of Total Oxygen Demand (TOD) and providing valuable insights for estimating calorific value.
“EMA 402XL represents a paradigm shift in elemental analysis,” said Giovanni Passoni, CEO of Velp Group. “It embodies our vision of combining scientific rigor, automation, and usability to empower laboratories with more reliable data and smarter workflows — fully aligned with our brand promise: Driven by curiosity.”
