EPSON Robots, a global leader in SCARA robot technology, today announced that the new EPSON RS3 Robot, featuring all the benefits of a typical SCARA plus more is now shipping. The new industry leading work space design of the EPSON RS3 clearly puts it ahead of other robots in its class with superior cycle times and larger work envelope access thus opening up new application possibilities.

“We have shown the new class of SCARA robot (RS3) to many existing and potential customers over the past few months and the response has been phenomenal” stated Michael Ferrara, Director of EPSON Robots. “We're finding that this unique new design is providing both new opportunities for applications like in the lab automation and medical/pharmaceutical markets as well as greatly improved solutions for established industries such as automotive and consumer products. Even in this down economy, some of our first shipments of the RS3 have been to the Automotive industry.”

The EPSON RS3 is literally a zero footprint robot, thus saving our customers valuable floor space. No other robot vendor offers a 350mm SCARA arm featuring a greatest working quadrangle greater than that of a typical 750mm SCARA arm. It is also capable of easy integration into compact assembly cells. Furthermore, the unique work envelope allows for unprecedented design flexibility with 450 degrees of axis rotation for omni directional access. All these exclusive features make the EPSON RS3 robot the most versatile and unique SCARA available in the market today.

Since the RS3 began shipping, users have discovered that extremely flexible motion profiles can be defined. Users have also enjoyed the RS3's ability to change the arms' attitude during linear interpolation. Uninterrupted straight line motions of the RS3 can be as much as two times greater than that of a comparable size SCARA robot. Furthermore, limitations on straight line motions are vastly reduced over "old" SCARA designs, resulting in significantly improved cycle rates.

The EPSON RS3 is perfect for lab automation and other process heavy applications where large quantities of parts are presented to process or testing stations.

Our low cost, high performance Micro PowerDrive RC180 Controller comes standard with the EPSON RS3 robot which provides the ultimate experience in ease of use, compact size, and reliability. In addition to all of these great features, the RC180 controller also provides our industry leading EPSON RC+ Controls software and lots of fully integrated options such as: Vision Guidance, .Net support, Profibus, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP and much more.

EPSON Robots

The EPSON RS robots are a unique new SCARA design built to reduce cycle times and maximize work envelope usage. By designing the arm so that Joint 2 can go under Joint 1, the RS3 utilizes the entire workspace underneath the arm. There is no dead space as with other SCARA models. This allows the RS3-351 model to work on pallets as large as 494mm x 494mm. A size which normally requires a 700mm SCARA arm or larger. Speed - Nearly 20% faster than our G-Series (0.339 Sec Champion Cycle). Cycle Times - Unique new design reduces cycle times by allowing arm to move straight through "dead space" of other SCARA models. Let us show you how EPSON RS3 Cycles crush the competition. Payload - Up to 3Kg for fast cycles with reasonable payloads. Wide Variety - The RS3 represents a unique new design for SCARA models. EPSON now offers over 200+ SCARA models. Work Envelope - Only EPSON offers FULL work envelope useability. No dead space. Can use pallets that normally require a SCARA with 700mm of reach or more. High Precision - Repeatabilities that you come to expect from EPSON. Cleanroom Models - ISO 3 (Class 10) Clean/ESD models available. Ease of Use - Industry leading EPSON RC+ significantly reduces development time vs. competitive products.Low Cost - RS3-Series Robots run on the low cost EPSON Micro PowerDrive RC170 Controller. Powerful controls at a great price. Fully Integrated Options - Vision Guidance, .NET Connectivity, DeviceNet, Profibus, Additional I/O and more.
