Application Note: Measuring Silicone Oil Interaction with Protein Using Hound
5 September 2018
Many biologic drugs are lipophilic and negatively interact with the silicone oil that lubricates prefilled syringes and vials. These interactions can cause protein aggregation and the formation of visible particles leading to decreased drug potency. This application note shows how Hound can be used to determine the chemical composition of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) particles in a protein formulation where silicone oil interactions were a suspected cause of aggregation.
