New Automated Gel Electrophoresis Platform for DNA Size Selection

Watch this interview with Sage Science to learn about the Pippin Prep, a new gel electrophoresis platform designed to automate size selection of DNA for next-generation sequencing applications. The instrument features a computer-controlled power supply and an integrated optical system, which enables user-defined size fractions to be collected automatically, avoiding time intensive manual gel pouring and gel cutting processes. Gel cassettes use an external DNA size standard run in a dedicated sample lane to determine the timing of size-selected collections. SelectScience.tv interview at AACR 2011.

Pippin Prep DNA Size Selection System

Sage Science

The Pippin Prep is a preparative electrophoresis platform for collection of size-selected DNA samples. The system automates DNA size selection using disposable, pre-cast agarose cassettes to extract fractions according to user-defined software input. Samples are electro-eluted from agarose and collected in buffer. The platform is used for the construction of next-gen sequencing libraries. The system collects fragments (depending on gel type) between 90 bp- 8kb. A higher quality of sample can be extracted, more reproducibly and with no cross-contamination, when compared to manual gel purification methods.
