Danaher’s vision for diagnostic excellence in infectious disease

In this video, Kelly Sager, Vice President and Franchise Head, Infectious Disease and Acute Care for Danaher's diagnostics businesses, discusses the organization’s commitment to diagnostic excellence, a holistic approach to smarter test ordering, and improved patient outcomes.

Speaking at the ESCMID Global 2026 conference, Sager highlights Danaher's focus on diagnostic stewardship, not by simply just reducing the number of tests, but ensuring the right tests are performed for optimal care – ordering tests smarter, not fewer. Sager shares examples from this year's scientific symposium, such as the transformative impact of PCR screening on managing CPE (carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales) outbreaks, helping health systems avoid costly mitigations.

Danaher’s drive for innovation is evident in its partnerships, including collaborations with Oxford Nanopore Technology for next-generation sequencing and MeMed for bacterial versus viral testing. Through these efforts, Danaher aims to support clinicians with faster answers, reduce uncertainty, and shape the future of diagnostics worldwide.

Clinical MicrobiologyMicrobiology is the study of microorganisms including protists, prokaryotes, fungi, and, often, viruses. Microorganisms are a useful research tool as genetic vectors and, in immunology, for antibiotic susceptibility testing, cellular biology and genetics. Microorganisms commonly grow readily in incubators with microbial culture media; this can contain chromogenic supplements to differentiate between cell lines. Estimate your culture’s density of microorganisms with colony counters, or screen and select colonies for desirable clones with automated colony pickers. Additionally, equipment is available to monitor environments for the presence of microbes and identify with microbial identification instruments.
