Solutions for Mass Spectrometric Detection from Merck Millipore

6 Nov 2014

Mass spectrometry (MS) is nowadays an established routine detection method that can be coupled to various techniques in the laboratory. In contrast to more simple detectors such as ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) or fluorescence, MS generates data about molecular masses and detailed structural parameters and is by far more sensitive in the wide majority of applications. Many sophisticated as well as affordable systems are available, covering various fields of use such as quantification and qualification experiments, and a number of these systems are described in this compendium.

LiChrosolv® Hypergrade Solvents for LC-MS

Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany

High purity solvents for LC-MS and trace analysis with UV and fluorescence detection: 0.2 µm stainless steel filtered – perfect for use in UPLC and UHPLC. Very high UV-transmittance. Excellent baseline stability in gradient elution. Very low total ionic current (TIC) in LC-MS. Low level of ionic background and ion suppression. High ionization efficiency in all ionization methods (electrospray ionization/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (ESI/APCI) positive and negative mode). Applications: Protein profiling. Pesticide Analysis. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Proteomics LC-MS. LC-MS routine analysis. Lichrosolv® hypergrade solvents enable analysis in the low ppb trace range and can be used for both the isocratic separation of 6 PAHs according to the German DIN method and the gradient separation of 16 PAHs according to the methods EPA 610 (analysis of drinking water) and EPA 550 + benzo(e) pyrene + perylene (analysis of waste water).

SeQuant® ZIC®-cHILIC for HPLC and LC-MS separation of polar hydrophilic compounds

Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany

This new zwitterionic stationary phase with phosphorylcholine functional group provides you with complementary selectivity for easier method development for substances that have been difficult to separate by previous types of HPLC columns operated in reversed-phase or HILIC mode. The selectivity features of SeQuant® ZIC®-cHILIC are especially beneficial for negatively charged polar compounds such as nucleotides and organic acids, but do also provide advantageous separations of positively charged hydrophilic molecules; for example aminoglycosides and cations.   The column is also very suitable for zwitterionic and neutral polar hydrophilic substances. High-performance HILIC column Complementary selectivity for polar hydrophilic compounds Maximum LC-MS compatibility with minimized column bleed Excellent reproducibility and robustness Very high stability (more than 1600 injections during 270 hours of continuous use without showing any signs of change in retention)
