Small Animal Lung Volume Segmentation Employing the Albira CT and PMOD Software

8 Jan 2016

This application protocol provides instructions for segmenting the lung volume in small animal Albira µCT datasets to allow for quantitative volumetric measurement, and unique visualization of the lung volume merged with the original whole CT. Masking for heart and kidney regions for visualization of merged original whole CT, lung volume, heart region, and kidney regions is also shown. This method may be applied to Albira µCT small animal disease model datasets to assess lung volumes.

Data AnalysisData analysis hardware and software is available to make data processing straight-forward yet powerful. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Molecular Recognition SoftwareMolecular recognition software is widely used to analyze DNA, RNA, proteins and chemicals. The software can be useful for graphical viewing, comparative analyses, high-throughput screening, genomics, proteomics and phylogenetics. Molecular recognition software uses bioinformatics tools and analyses such as BLAST searches and generates structural predictions, 3D structures and sequencing information.Software PlatformsSoftware platforms are useful for various stages of laboratory experiments from data collection to data storage and processing. For instance lab software is available for system control, data management, data analysis and qualification / validation. In Vivo Imaging SystemsIn vivo imaging systems, including pre-clinical imaging systems and medical imaging systems are used to non-invasively visualize and capture images of live animals and plants. Monitor the natural processes or diseases of your subjects using small-animal pre-clinical imaging systems, including single photon positron emission tomography (SPECT), positron emission tomography (PET), computed tomography (micro-CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray radiography, ultrasound, fluorescence and bioluminescence imagers. Multimodal systems and software solutions are also available for correlative analysis of organ, tissue, cell, or molecular-level processes. The research is conducted inside universities, medical schools, pharmaceutical companies, farms, defence establishments, and commercial facilities that provide animal-testing services to industry. It includes pure research such as genetics, developmental biology, behavioral studies, as well as applied research such as pharmaceutical testing in pre-clinical, before human, studies. Quantitative AnalysesQuantitative analyses involve measuring the amount or concentration of a substance in a sample using analytical techniques. These analyses are essential in fields like chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Explore quantitative analysis tools in our peer-reviewed product directory; compare products, check reviews, and get pricing directly from manufacturers.Small Animal ImagingSmall animal imaging is the visualization of living animals, most commonly mice and rats, for research purposes. This non-invasive technique is vital for long-term studies into drugs effects, as well as small animal anatomy and physiology.Data AnalysisThe analysis of data is the process of transforming, modeling and evaluating data to discover useful information from experimental results. Live Cell ImagingLive cell imaging is the study of living cells using microscopes and high-content imaging systems. This technique provides in-depth insight into fast and complex biological processes, by allowing dynamic imaging of living cells instead of acquiring an individual image at a single point in time.Data AcquisitionData acquisition refers to the collection and organization of information and data sets.
