Sarcosine: Separation of Potential Urine Biomarker from Isobaric ß-alanine

1 Apr 2014

Since sarcosine is considered a potential biomarker for prostate cancer risk and aggressiveness, it is essential to resolve and accurately quantify this compound in the presence of isobaric (same m/z) beta-alanine. This application note describes a sensitive, specific, quantitative, and reproducible LC-MS method, using a Cogent Diamond Hydride™ column, for the separation of sarcosine from beta-alanine in serum and urine samples.

Cogent Diamond Hydride™ HPLC Columns

MicroSolv Technology Corp.

Cogent Diamond Hydride HPLC Columns are manufactured with TYPE-C™ silica (silica hydride) and a very small amount of carbon on the surface that adjusts the column hydrophobicity to an important level. This makes these columns have unique separation capabilities for scientists working in LCMS, metabolomics, bioanalytical, amino acids, organic acids, carbohydrates, and very polar small molecules.
