Quality Control of Li₂CO₃ from salars by XRD analysis using ARL X’TRA Companion benchtop XRD

25 Mar 2024

Lithium carbonate is crucial for various industries, including battery production, ceramics, and glass, necessitating high purity and crystallinity. In this application note, Thermo Fisher Scientific discusses the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃) extracted from salars, which are salt flats where lithium is obtained from brines or saltwater. The Thermo Scientific™ ARL™ X’TRA Companion benchtop XRD system is highlighted for its suitability in analyzing Li₂CO₃ samples. Its θ/θ goniometer is ultra-compact, adopting stepper motors with optical encoders, to ensure extremely precise angular positioning and reproducibility. ARL X’TRA Companion data can also be easily combined with XRF data to increase accuracy and allow for more insightful interpretation of results.
