Miniature Reactor Platforms for Rapid Development of Catalytic Bio-Fuel Processes

22 Jan 2013

Research into bio-fuels which are not based around human food-stuffs, but rather start as wild grass or a by-product (waste) from current food chain, requires experimental tools that are quite special and are a key part of the race to produce renewable source fuels. This article from HEL Ltd reviews the technologies that a currently available to facilitate such research.

CAT Block

HEL's simplist catalyst screening system, the CAT blocks, are complete units for hydrogenation and other high pressure reactions. CAT systems have been designed to provide a cost effective, simple and easy-to-use tool for high pressure reaction screening. They can be used directly on stirring hot plates or oil baths.

AutoMATE Multi-Reactor System

Chemistry platforms with independently controlled zones, offering both high and low pressure solutions. Options of 2, 4, 6 or 8 zones available, with the facility to mix and match up to 8 different reactors and vials, low and high pressure. The AutoMATE allows for independent temperature control and monitoring for each reactor as well as over 100 º C range at any time. Choice of bottom (magnetic) and / or overhead stirring is provided. The system is capable of almost limitless expansion of features, enabling applications such as calorimetry, distillation, multiple feeds, hydrogenation and other pressure reactions and crystallisation studies.
