Fast and Confident Quantitation of Environmental Contaminants using GC–TOF MS

This application note demonstrates how the excellent sensitivity, stability and high-quality spectra produced by BenchTOF mass spectrometers, with data analysis by TOF-DS software, can provide a rapid and robust solution for the quantitative analysis of environmental contaminants. The introduction of recent legislation, such as the EU Environmental Liabilities Directive 2004/35/EC,1 has led to higher demand for contract laboratories to screen for pollutants in environmental matrices, such as soil, sediment and water. This so-called ‘environmental forensics’ approach has driven the need for robust quantitation of pollutants, which can be used successfully as evidence in court.
