Effect of Diluent on Analyte Adsorption to Glass Vials

Silanol groups present on the surface of Type I autosampler glass vials contribute to quantitative loss in the case of basic analytes. This is believed to occur primarily by electrostatic interaction and possibly by hydrogen bonding to some degree. In this white paper, the nature of this interaction was investigated in a series of experiments using different sample diluents.

This is due to the elimination of virtually all silanols. RSA™ autosampler vials and glass inserts are not manufactured with coatings; but have significantly reduced silanols and surface ions on the glass surface normal produced during the manufacturing process.
