Comparison of Thin Films from Plastic/Polymer Materials Using the Mini-Film Maker Accessory from Specac: Part 3 of 3

6 Jun 2016

This application note is an expansion of the study in the second part of this series (Thin Film Production of Plastic/Polymer Materials Using the Mini-Film Maker Accessory from Specac). Five specific samples were chosen from an original set of thirteen plastic/polymer samples to form into nominal 15 and 25 micron thick films along with their 50 micron thick films at a 15 mm diameter, to be compared with their resultant IR transmission spectra of the specific polymer family type.

Mini-Film Maker Kit

Specac Ltd

The Specac Mini-Film Maker is designed to produce high-quality thin films of polymer and plastic materials for infrared transmission analysis. This product enables quick and easy hot pressing of samples at any temperature between ambient to 250°C, to give constant and reproducible thickness films over the range 50 to 500 microns with a formed diameter of 15mm. The Mini-Film Maker Kit includes the Mini-Film Maker Press with integrated heated platens and digital temperature controller, a Film Maker Assembly with Film Sizing Rings of 50, 100, 250 and 500 microns, 200 pairs of Aluminium Foil Discs, a Cooling Plate, a pack of 100 Specacards, and Stainless Steel Tweezers (Forceps). A set of US, EU and UK Power leads are provided as standard.
