BAM Ensures Safe Oxygen Cylinder Filling with FLIR Thermal Imaging Camera

27 Aug 2013

To ensure user safety all equipment and components that come into contact with pressurized oxygen therefore need to be thoroughly tested. This is the task of the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Berlin, Germany, working group ‘Safe Handling of Oxygen’. This case study highlights the ability of the FLIR SC4000 thermal imaging camera to meet all the criteria that are important for experiments at BAM.

Gas Generators and AnalyzersGas generators are used for supplying or monitoring a regular flow of a high purity gas such as nitrogen, hydrogen or zero air for applications such as gas chromatography. Gas analyzers can be used in supply chain processes and laboratory experiments with portable analyzers for monitoring CO2 and O2 levels as well as trace gases. Regular flow can be produced with gas control modules and flow meters. Thermal analysis equipment includes differential scanning calorimeters (DSC), thermogravimetric analyzers (TGA), thermomechanical analyzers (TMA), dilatometers, thermometers, vapor sorption analyzers, boiling and melting point apparatus. Thermal analyzers can reveal properties such as melting, crystallization and glass transitions or other processes such as oxidation, decomposition, volatilization, as well as coefficients of thermal expansion and modulus.
