Analysis of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in Fish Oil Supplements by Gas Chromatography with Multi-Reflecting Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (GC-MR-TOF-MS)

4 Apr 2011

In this application note by LECO, the contents of several over-the-counter fish oil capsules were spiked with Accustandard’s PCB congener standard, extracted into acetonitrile using Qsep Q150 extraction salts (Restek #26213), and analyzed using LECO’s Pegasus GC-HRT. At the heart of the new instrument is its TOF mass analyzer utilizing Folded Flight Path™ (FFP™) technology, with three convenient operational modes: nominal resolution, high resolution and ultra-high resolution. The GC-HRT provided the mass accuracy and high resolving power necessary for robust identification of trace components in fish oil matrices.
