Programmed mixing of samples in 1.5 ml tubes or 96 well plate. Time and speed can be controlled with buttons. Our model does not have temperature control. We use this thermomixer for efficient post reaction cleanup after ABI BigDye terminator sequencing using the Xterminator Cleanup kit The tubes are secure in the adaptor even with rigorous shaking.

Compact, user friendly, reliable thermomixer.
Various applications: for heating/cooling/mixing samples
It's an expensive thermomixer, but it is compact, easy to use and reliable. Allows for a multitude of thermoblocks, from 50ml tubes to microplate blocks that are easily interchangeable. Has an optional, special thermotop accessory lid that helps stabilizing temperature faster (and protects light-sensitive products as well).

Over-priced, malfunctions regularly, Eppendorf not very helpful. Consider competitors.
Cell biology, DNA replication
We purchased this unit because it was the standard mixing/heating block people were using. There were other (cheaper) options on the market, even more options now. Despite the cost being more than double the competitors, we went with Eppendorf because we figured it would be reliable and have better service if it broke. About 8 months after we got it, the unit started throwing cryptic error codes and stopping mid experiment. Sometimes this happened 1-2 hours into an overnight incubation that ruined the whole experiment. We sent the unit back and had to pay for it to get serviced, and it was away for weeks. About a year later, a similar thing started happening. Cryptic error codes, experiments ruined. We sent it back again for repair, this time they gave us a loaner unit for the time being but it didn't come with the heating lid. We had to pay thousands for the repair, and we reconsidered paying for the repair and just buying one of the competition since the price of the Eppendorf one was nearly the same as a new unit from some competitors. However, we ultimately ended up getting it repaired. It hasnt had an issue again yet, but there's plenty of time for that. In summary, the unit is decent, but for the large pricetag of the brand we should get reliability and service to match it, which has not been our experience at all.
