The magnet NMR minispec mq series offers the most comprehensive range of measurement frequencies known today, ranging from 7.5 MHz for samples with large diameters, via 10 MHz, 20 MHz and 40 MHz, to the unparalleled mq60 with 60 MHz operating frequency.

With the minispec Toothpaste Analyzer the fluorine content of toothpaste can be accurately measured irrespective of the fluorine compound and the toothpaste matrix. This NMR method is independent of sample color, surface, etc., and does not destroy the paste. The analysis can be repeated as often as desired using the same sample.

The simplicity and the speed of the analysis make TD-NMR the method of choice for production, product development and quality control.

Features:

  • Most cost-effective at-line fluorine content determination
  • Measurement time < 10 min
  • Widely applicable for different toothpaste formulations
  • Automation option

Fluorine Content Analysis in Toothpaste Using NMR

Fluorine is added to toothpaste to help protect against cavities by strengthening the tooth enamel, typical quantities are between 1000 and 1500 ppm and this is strictly regulated as high fluorine levels can lead to health risks. Using Time Domain Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (TD-NMR) the fluorine content can be accurately measured regardless of the particular fluorine compounds and other ingredients present. This application note from Bruker describes this process using its mq Toothpaste Analyzer from the Minispec series.
