BACT/ALERT® VIRTUO®
Fast fully automated blood culture solution.
Great instrument, very user friendly, accurate and timely results.
Blood culture instrument
The Virtuo has been an excellent instrument. We have had almost no problems with this platform, with the exception as of recently. The computer needed to be updated, and with that came a few minor issues that needed to be addressed, but a lack of experienced FSE has caused delays in repairs.

Accuracy and timely detection of positive blood cultures.
Blood culture vials incubation
Bact/ALERT Virtuo detects positive blood culture earlier and volumetric analysis of vials can be done easily. Results are more reliable than BacT/ALERT 3D. I recommend due to its high accuracy.

From blood culture to clinical confidence: Rethinking the path to sepsis management
Sepsis remains one of the most urgent and complex challenges in modern healthcare, demanding not only rapid detection but also confident, informed decision-making. As clinicians face increasing pressure to act quickly while supporting antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) goals, the need for diagnostic solutions that deliver both speed and clarity has never been greater.
Drawing on more than a decade of experience in blood culture automation, bioMérieux continues to focus on how laboratories and clinicians approach blood culture, bringing together automation, data integration, and workflow insights supporting informed decisions at every stage.
A new brochure offers a practical entry point into this conversation, helping teams reduce friction, improve consistency, and move from results to action with greater confidence.
But this is only the beginning.
An upcoming webinar will unpack the role of integrated microbiology solutions in centralized and decentralized clinical models addressing today’s sepsis and diagnostic stewardship challenges.

Right-sizing the clinical microbiology lab: How centralized and decentralized models drive stewardship, efficiency, and outcomes
Tuesday, June 2, at 13:00 EDT | 10:00 PDT
Bloodstream infections demand fast, accurate results – but many laboratories face increasing operational and financial constraints. As expectations for turnaround time, stewardship, and quality rise, labs must decide how to deliver better answers without adding complexity or cost.
Join this expert‑led webinar to explore how different blood culture testing models can succeed in today’s healthcare environment.
Learn From Two Proven, Real‑World Approaches
In this SelectScience® webinar, hosted in partnership with bioMérieux, two clinical microbiology leaders – Dr. Stella Antonara, PhD, D(ABMM) and Dr. J. Kristie Johnson, PhD, D(ABMM) – share their firsthand experiences implementing centralized and decentralized blood culture testing models.
Rather than promoting a one‑size‑fits‑all solution, this session offers a balanced, evidence‑based discussion that reflects the realities of modern laboratory operations. Through real‑world examples, the speakers examine how thoughtful workflow design, and right‑sized instrumentation can:
- Strengthen antimicrobial stewardship efforts
- Improve operational efficiency and resource utilization
- Support better, faster clinical decision‑making
