Product News: 3D Cell Culture in the Flask

CELLSTAR cell culture vessels with cell-repellent surface available in new formats

20 Jun 2016

Greiner Bio-One, the technology partner to the diagnostic and pharmaceutical industry, exhibited its extended product portfolio of CELLSTAR cell culture vessels with cell-repellent coatings at the analytica 2016 trade fair, which was held from 10 to 13 May in Munich, Germany.

Previously, only cell culture plates and dishes were available with this unique surface. However, at the start of the year, Greiner Bio-One added cell culture flasks in three different formats (25 cm², 75 cm² and 175 cm² growth area) to its range, as both standard and filter-top cell culture flasks. The new tall 175 cm² flask rounds off the Greiner Bio-One product portfolio of cell culture flasks with cell-repellent surface.

Ideal platform for 3D cell culture

The CELLSTAR cell culture vessels with cell-repellent surface are ideal for cultivating cells to form three-dimensional structures. Outstanding results can be achieved, particularly when they are used with technology from cooperation partner Nano3D Biosciences, which is based in Houston, Texas, in the USA. This technology is based on the magnetization of cells using nanoparticles that attach themselves to the cell membrane. The development of three-dimensional spheroids or ring structures is initiated by briefly applying magnets.

As the CELLSTAR cell culture vessels with cell-repellent surface effectively prevent the adhesion of semi-adherent and adherent cell lines, they are ideal for suspension cultures and for cultivating spheroids, stem cell aggregates and gel-based 3D cultures.

All CELLSTAR cell culture vessels with cell-repellent surface are free of detectable DNases, RNases and human DNA. They contain no detectable endotoxins or cytotoxic substances, are sterile and have a shelf life of four years.

CELLSTAR® cell culture vessels with a cell-repellent surface are part of the CELLSTAR® product line from Greiner Bio-One.
