Wyatt Technology has published a new brochure to demonstrate the capabilities of its innovative Eclipse separation system. The brochure, called 'The Eclipse, the ultimate system for separating macromolecules, proteins, colloids, and nanoparticles' and is of particular interest for scientists working with colloidal materials and biophysical characterization studies in the biotechnology, chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries.

The informative new 12-page brochure is available in both hard copy and pdf format, and provides scientific insight into the benefits of asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation (AF4) for the separation of inhomogeneous solutions and suspensions. The brochure highlights the instrument’s wide range of applications, including the characterization of human serum, proteins, biopolymers, liposomes, particles, viruses and even beer (in order to optimize the brewery process).

The new all-inclusive document exemplifies eight unique features of the Eclipse Separation System that no other AF4 system can offer. These include channel pressure monitoring, motor-driven needle valves, advanced electronic controller with Ethernet communication, bypass flow detectors and a cross flow regulating device (LiquiFlow). Moreover, as the Eclipse system splits the main flow in the primary pump, it does not require a separate pump to generate injection flow like similar AF4 systems.

As the control of the pumps, valves and LiquiFlows is automated, the Eclipse software is particularly user friendly. Customizing the instrument to suit different analytical needs is also straightforward. For example, at the flick of a switch, the detectors and the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment of the Eclipse can be alternated between Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) and Field-Flow Fractionation (FFF) analysis.

The new Eclipse brochure is available free of charge in both hard copy and pdf format via the article webpage.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. SEC is further subdivided into gel filtration chromatography (GFC) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) when an aqueous or organic mobile phase is used respectively. HPLC-based SEC systems and columns are available for analytical separation alongside SEC spin columns or filters to prep samples for many protocols.
