Waters Corporation introduced new High Definition Imaging™ (HDI®) software capabilities at the Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy.

HDI 1.4 Software simplifies and streamlines mass spectral imaging data processing and analysis with an intuitive workflow. With the new software release, research scientists can now better organize, process, and communicate multimodal mass spectrometry data, including matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) and desorption electrospray ionization (DESI), resulting in a specificity and multiplicity unmatched by traditional techniques.

“This impactful software allows for full integration of multimodal imaging experiments for SYNAPT® G2-Si as well as DESI imaging for Xevo® G2-XS mass spectrometers in a single user interface. It enables multimodal experiments, allowing scientists to do more with the same system, giving them greater flexibility, and making the power of imaging mass spectrometry truly informative,” said Rohit Khanna, Senior Vice President, Applied Technology.

HDI 1.4 Software features new tools that improve the integrity and clarity of rich imaging data, allowing DMPK and clinical research scientists, whether in industry or academic laboratories, to successfully publish their imaging data. This is essential for comparative image interrogation and for publication of data in peer-reviewed journals and publications.

Featuring an intuitive workflow, HDI 1.4 Software is structured and organized in a manner that guides the user step-by-step through the data review process. At the same time, the look and feel of the software has been designed to be very instinctive to the user.

The HDI software package contains all the data analysis tools required for rapid and effective interrogation of complex multimodal imaging data, including the operation and analysis of MALDI and DESI imaging technologies, the integration of MS and MS/MS capabilities, and ion mobility separations that can further improve specificity. The software also enables the simultaneous processing of multiple mass spectral imaging (MSI) datasets of different modalities as well as view multiple processing states of a single dataset.

For discovery scientists in DMPK and pre-clinical research, this new version of HDI Software enables the interrogation of large data sets from a variety of mass spectral experiments, and the ability to co-register mass spectral data with histology in an intuitive manner, improving their ability to communicate results of imaging-based studies.
