Shimadzu Releases LabSolutions CS Chromatography Data System for Integrated Management of Shimadzu Corporation's Analytical Instruments and Agilent Technologies' HPLCs

1 Sept 2013

Product news

Shimadzu Corporation has released LabSolutions CS, a chromatography data system that is able to control 1100, 1200, 1260, and 1290 series high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) systems manufactured by Agilent Technologies, Inc.

On May 29, 2013, Shimadzu agreed with Agilent to mutually exchange instrument control drivers in order to enable the integrated control of analytical instruments from both companies. Based on that agreement, this new product allows analytical laboratories that use a mix of Shimadzu HPLCs and gas chromatographs (GC) and Agilent HPLCs to perform analysis using unified software. LabSolutions CS integrates the analysis laboratory and office to allow access to analytical instruments, such as HPLCs and GCs, from any computer on the network, and to perform control, analysis monitoring, and data analysis. In addition, the LabSolutions CS database enables central management of all analysis data.

LabSolutions CS features a new multi-data reporting capability, which enables analysis result reports to be easily created in a familiar operating environment without the need for Microsoft Excel®. The easy-to-use, high-performance LabSolutions series, in addition to providing integrated instrument control, automating analysis steps, and supporting report creation, achieves data management for a wide range of instruments.

Main Features
(1) Support for Agilent HPLC Systems
In addition to Shimadzu HPLC and GC systems, the LabSolutions CS chromatography data system offers control of Agilent 1100, 1200, 1260, and 1290 series HPLC systems. This unified software and simple user interface allows users to control Shimadzu GC and HPLC and Agilent HPLC systems and easily migrate their analysis environment to LabSolutions CS.

The LabSolutions CS can also perform integrated data management of a wide range of Shimadzu analytical instruments, such as LC/MS, GC/MS, UV, and balances, thus enabling centralized management of laboratory data using a single software platform.

(2) Support for Multi-Data Report Creation
LabSolutions CS features improved multi-data reporting capabilities and now allows creation of reports that combine data from various instruments in a familiar operating environment without using Microsoft Excel®. Verified report templates for system suitability tests, content uniformity tests, elution tests, and other tests are provided. Templates can also be freely customized. In addition, change management by audit trail functionality reduces the customer validation load.

By controlling Agilent HPLC systems and enhancing reporting capabilities, the LabSolutions CS, as an integrated data analysis system for the control of analytical instruments and analysis data management, aims to improve productivity in analysis laboratories.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. The two major instrument classes are single-beam or double-beam spectrophotometers. More specialized equipment includes colorimeters, spectroradiometers and refractometers. Portable and microvolume spectrophotometers are also available. For the modular spectroscopy lab, explore a range of light sources for combination with a spectrograph/spectrometer and optics. Often used in drug detection, forensic investigation and environmental analysis for pesticides and contaminants, GC-MS is a powerful addition to your lab’s analytical capabilities. GC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzers can give greater sensitivity and resolution to your analysis.
