Sartorius launches Cubis III laboratory balances

Sartorius has launched Cubis^® III, a new generation of premium laboratory balances designed to help compliance-driven labs securely capture and manage weighing data, integrate directly with existing laboratory informatics systems, and scale connectivity across sites without additional middleware software.

The Cubis^® III portfolio, including Cubis^® III and Cubis^® III Max packages, is aimed at laboratories worldwide that need to meet stringent regulatory requirements, strengthen data governance, and control long-term IT and maintenance costs.

Compliant weighing and direct integration with lab informatics

Cubis^® III balances provide direct, standards-based connectivity so weighing data can be sent securely into existing laboratory informatics environments, including laboratory information management systems (LIMS), electronic laboratory notebooks (ELN), and chromatography data systems (CDS), without relying on extra middleware software or custom point-to-point solutions.

An embedded OPC UA server and support for enterprise protocols such as HTTPS, FTPS, and SMB enable secure data transfer from the balance into lab systems. This architecture allows laboratories to integrate Cubis^® III directly into their digital ecosystems and IT infrastructure, reducing complexity and simplifying data flows.

Built-in compliance features for regulated laboratories

Compliance capabilities are fully embedded in the Cubis^® III instrument. On-instrument audit trails and electronic signatures support 21 CFR Part 11 requirements, while guided, pharmacopeia-aligned weighing workflows help enforce consistent, standardized procedures across sites and users.

Role-based access control and LDAP integration extend enterprise IT practices to the device level, supporting secure, centralized user management across fleets of balances. Digitized cleaning workflows, delivered via the Cleaning QApp, capture cleaning events with authenticated sign-off, improving documentation and traceability without additional paper records.

Reduced IT effort, validation burden, and lifecycle costs

By removing the dependency on standalone middleware, Cubis^® III reduces the number of systems that must be installed, qualified, and maintained. This streamlined approach helps laboratories simplify validation activities, reduce IT effort, and control long-term lifecycle and maintenance costs.

High accuracy with small sample quantities supports efficient use of valuable materials, which is particularly important in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and other high-value research and quality control environments.

Configurable workflows and scalable connectivity

Cubis^® III features configurable, on-instrument workflows that can be tailored to specific applications and processes. This flexibility allows laboratories to standardize weighing procedures, guide users step by step, and adapt workflows as requirements evolve.

With two packages, Cubis^® III and Cubis^® III Max, Sartorius enables laboratories to choose the level of data handling, connectivity, and workflow sophistication that best fits their current needs. Capabilities can be expanded over time through additional workflows and integrations, providing a scalable foundation for a more connected, efficient, and future-ready laboratory.
