Millipore Corporation, a Life Science leader providing technologies, tools and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, today announced the launch of the new SNAP i.d. protein detection system that allows researchers to produce higher quality Western blots 80% more quickly than with conventional immunodetection protocols.

Typically, researchers lack the time to optimize their blotting protocols. By shortening the time required for blocking, washing, and antibody incubations to 30 minutes, the SNAP i.d. system allows researchers to optimize their immunodetection conditions for the highest quality results. The SNAP i.d. system is compatible with all membrane types and detection methods, such as chemiluminescence and fluorescence. Both sensitivity and specificity are equivalent or higher than standard immunodetection, with no additional reagent consumption required. Antibody solutions can be collected and reused, for even more economical immunodetection

The SNAP i.d. system produces Western blots of very high quality because its unique, vacuum-driven technology and built-in flow distributor actively drive reagents through the membrane, ensuring even distribution. Three different sizes of blot holders accommodate up to three blots each, and two blot holders can be run in parallel. Thus, researchers can process up to six blots in parallel, quickly optimize conditions, and greatly increase their protein detection throughput.

Millipore has evolved from a high performance filtration products and services company into a leading provider of tools and services and a key partner of choice for Life Science customers. We’ve transformed ourselves through R&D investment, organic growth, and acquisitions such as Chemicon, Upstate, Linco, Celliance, Newport Bio Systems, NovAseptic AB and MicroSafe. The integrated Millipore offers more innovative technologies and stronger application support to streamline processes and provide consistently reliable results. The expert scientists in our Life Sciences business unit understand the complexity of Life Science research and can support our customers in their most difficult challenges in cell biology, stem cells, protein research, and cell signaling.

ElectrophoresisElectrophoresis equipment is used to separate mixtures of protein, DNA or RNA, based on their electric charge, size and other physical characteristics, by passing them through a medium such as a polyacrylamide gel, an agarose gel or a capillary tube. Electrophoresis equipment includes horizontal and vertical gel electrophoresis chambers, isoelectric focusing systems, 2D electrophoresis and capillary electrophoresis instruments. Precast gels with a gradient can be used or gels can be hand cast. Samples are run alongside ladders or markers to identify the approximate size of a molecule. Separated proteins and nucleic acids in the gel can be stained or probed with fluorescent markers and then imaged and detected using gel documentation instruments, transilluminators, densitometers and scanners. Tools used in proteomics include chromatography, blotting and gels, protein arrays, mass spectrometry and ELISA and associated analysis software. Analyzers and proteomic systems should be sensitive, high resolution, fast and may be automated for high-throughput.Gel Doc / Image AnalysisGel documentation (gel doc) or gel imaging systems are used for the analysis of proteins, antibodies and nucleic acid immobilized in polyacrylamide or agarose gels, membranes or microarrays. Explore a range of a gel imaging systems, densitometers, scanners, transilluminators or UV lamp + CCD cameras for your image analysis solutions. Colorimetric, fluorescent and/or radioisotopic samples can be visualized and documented for further analysis. Immunology kits and analysis systems often use techniques such as ELISA, radioimmunoassay (RIA) and immunodiffusion assays, Immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry. Immunologists use equipment such as flow Cytometers, plate readers, plate washers and fluorescent microscopes.
