Product news

Millipore Corporation, a Life Science leader providing technologies, tools, and services for bioscience research and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, today announced the availability of a range of assays, kits, flow cytometry systems, and service plans as part of an integrated benchtop flow cytometry portfolio. Flow cytometry is a powerful method used to measure cell numbers, cell viability, programmed cell death (apoptosis), cell division, toxicity, and the differential expression of specific proteins that can help scientists understand the biology of embryonic development, cancer, metabolic and degenerative diseases, drug effects, and even aging. The benchtop format increases the convenience, flexibility, and accessibility of this technology.

Earlier this year, Millipore and Guava Technologies, Inc. entered into a long-term partnership to deliver optimized benchtop flow cytometry products and services to cell biologists, including stem cell researchers, at academic and government institutions as well as biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

All Guava® assays, kits, and systems for flow cytometry that are included in the partnership are now available from Millipore to academic and government laboratories worldwide, and to pharmaceutical and biotech labs outside of Europe and North America. Guava Technologies retains exclusive rights to all of its products for biotechnology and pharmaceutical laboratories within Europe and North America. Additionally, Millipore is the sole service provider for Guava flow cytometry instruments for all organizations worldwide.

Up-to-date technical information and product and service offerings as well as information about the ever-developing partnership between Millipore and Guava Technologies can be found via the article webpage.

Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms.
