Leica Microsystems and MDS Analytical Technologies today announced the launch of Leica MM AF imaging systems, a product line that combines Leica's industry-leading microscopy and MDS Analytical Technologies' latest MetaMorph® software, to provide researchers with a more comprehensive range of solutions for wide-field imaging in life sciences research.

The Leica MM AF imaging systems combine Leica's strengths in high-tech microscopy and imaging with the industry-leading breadth of applications and analysis of MetaMorph® software. The new product line offers tightly integrated systems based on the excellent ease-of-use and optical performance of the Leica microscope range, giving researchers an efficient platform for many types of imaging experiments. An integrated journaling capability is included that allows flexible customization of the platform for virtually any imaging application.

"MetaMorph software has long been the gold standard for software solutions in the arena of life science research image analysis," said Stefan Traeger, Managing Director of Leica Microsystems' Life Science Division. "The opportunity to partner with MDS Analytical Technologies gives us the chance to complement our leading-edge microscope systems with the most comprehensive software package to give our customers the utmost benefit."

MDS Analytical Technologies President Andy Boorn said Leica MM AF imaging systems provide researchers with an even higher-performance system with which to conduct research with wide-field microscopy.

"For many years, the MetaMorph range of products has played a leading role in all aspects of imaging and data analysis," said Mr. Boorn. "MDS Analytical Technologies welcomes the opportunity to team up with Leica to add the functionality, flexibility, and market reputation of MetaMorph software to the excellence in design automation and user friendliness of Leica microscopes and cameras."

Leica MM AF imaging systems will be distributed, marketed, and fully supported through Leica Microsystems' worldwide distribution and support network.

Cell / Tissue CultureCell culture or tissue culture is used to study the biology of cells or tissues and to isolate cellular products in an environment which can be manipulated and well defined. Accurately control your culture environment with bioreactors or culture incubators, bind your cells to a surface or together with an extracellular matrix. Distinguish cell types with differential media or proliferate cells with certain characteristics using selective media. Enrich your media with supplements such as growth factors, sera and vitamins. Data software can be used for math and stats, technical graphing and image analysis. In addition, software is available for specific data analysis of electrophoresis, densitometry, ELISA and DNA sequencing.Molecular Recognition SoftwareMolecular recognition software is widely used to analyze DNA, RNA, proteins and chemicals. The software can be useful for graphical viewing, comparative analyses, high-throughput screening, genomics, proteomics and phylogenetics. Molecular recognition software uses bioinformatics tools and analyses such as BLAST searches and generates structural predictions, 3D structures and sequencing information.Cell-Based AssaysCell-based assays are used to monitor the presence, quantity and activities of a desired cellular analyte including drug molecules or biomarkers. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms.
