CAMAG Laboratory updated a HPTLC method to identify Horse tail (Equisetum arvense). It allows discrimination from the adulterant Equisetum palustre at the ≥5% level. The update of CAMAG application note F-12 is based on a collaborative study of Official Medicines Control Laboratories and features fast and simplified sample preparation.

The plant's stems are rich in silica and silicic acids, which help mend broken bones and form collagen. Horse tail is also used as a diuretic, a treatment for kidney and bladder complaints, and an external therapy for bleeding wounds.
