Guava Technologies, Inc. has announced an exclusive partnership with IMV Technologies, world leader in reproductive biotechnology, to provide breeders and scientists with a unique cellular analysis platform that enables better evaluation of fertility parameters by introducing a new level of accuracy, reproducibility, productivity and cost effectiveness for livestock semen analysis.

Performing a panel of simple proprietary tests on a IMV/Guava EasyCyte Mini or IMV/Guava EasyCyte Plus microcapillary flow cytometer delivers a better understanding of sperm cell physiological status enabling Artificial Insemination Centres to better manage semen production and sires.

"Working closely with IMV Technologies we have produced a novel platform that represents a paradigm shift in animal semen quality control," said Paul Wheeler, VP of Sales and Marketing for Guava Technologies. "Existing techniques are limited in terms of the types of assays they can perform, are slow, not flexible and have low throughput". He added, "The new levels of accuracy, reproducibility, productivity and cost effectiveness are due to the unique attributes of our microcapillary flow cytometers and development of discriminating tests for sperm cell viability, motility, capacitation, acrosomal integrity, DNA fragmentation and bacterial contamination by IMV Technologies".

Guava Technologies' patented microcapillary flow cytometers accommodate smaller sample volumes, generate less waste, have lower operating costs, and are easier to set up and maintain than the typical traditional flow cytometer. By leveraging the unique attributes of microcapillary based flow cytometry, the company's integrated systems enable scientists and clinicians not specialised in the technology to perform complex cellular analyses directly from their own lab bench - quickly, simply, and cost-effectively.

Flow Cytometry / Cell CountingFlow cytometers are used to count, sort and examine multiple characteristics of cells. Other cell analysis equipment includes image cytometers, cell counters, fluorescence-activated cell sorters (FACS), magnetic-activated cell sorters (MACS), and a range of flow cytometry assay kits. Flow cytometers can reveal information on cell viability, cell proliferation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression, as well as identify cell populations and intracellular or cell-surface molecules. Additionally, some flow cytometers, known as FACS, have an additional sorting function after analysis. Cell counters and image cytometers count live and dead cell populations and can also conduct cell proliferation assays. Assay assembly requires chip assembly, a delivery system and a detection and analysis method. Beneficial features of assay kits or automated systems include high-throughput, high speed and sensitivity and low signal to noise ratio.Microarray AnalysisMicroarrays, also known as biochips, are used for the detection and analysis of multiple genes, proteins, antibodies, or biomarkers on a single microchip. This can reveal information on protein or gene expression, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), copy number variation (CNV), epigenetics and patient health in clinical diagnostic tests. Discover a range of microarray scanners and prefabricated antibody, protein, RNA and DNA microarrays for your analysis or consider creating your own custom microarrays with a microarray printer. This can reveal information on cell health (apoptosis, cytotoxicity, viability and proliferation assays), cell metabolism, cell migration and cell signaling mechanisms.
