Corning Announces New Osteo-Assay Surface for Bone Cell Assays

Corning Incorporated today announced its new Corning® Osteo-Assay Surface for bone cell assays. This assay surface is manufactured using a proprietary surface technology that mimics ‘in vivo’ bone and delivers high lot-to-lot consistency, enabling researchers to achieve more predictable and reproducible results, providing an alternative to preparing dentine or bone slices.

Corning will be showcasing its osteo-assay surface in Booth #1321 Dec. 5 – 9 at the American Society for Cell Biology’s 49th Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif. Corning’s newest surface comes pre-applied in 24- and 96-well plate formats. These ready-to-use multi-well plates also contain their own bar code for efficient automated tracking.

Corning’s osteo-assay surface is designed to:
• Maintain and grow bone cells for assays
• Provide reliable, uniform, and consistent coating for direct assessment of bone cell function and differentiation
• Enable high-content analysis
• Be used for solution-based quantitative assays

“Through continuous interaction with our global customer base we understood the need for an alternative to the current methods of conducting bone cell assays that would allow for the study of functional activity between osteoclasts and osteoblasts,” said Dr. Jeff Mooney, director commercial technology, Corning Life Sciences. “Our new Corning Osteo-Assay Surface for bone cell assays mimics bone in an ‘in vitro’ system. This provides researchers with the tools for conducting assays in a much more predictable manner to gain deeper insights and more advanced research results."
