Product news

Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostic products, announced today the availability of a technical note (tech note 5720), which describes a study identifying the optimal conditions for electroporating IMR-32 and SK-N-SH neuroblastoma cell lines with plasmid DNA or siRNA.

The study shows that good conditions for electroporating these cells are a 20 ms square-wave pulse of 200 V and 2,000 μF. Using higher cell density yielded results that were at least as good as those obtained with cells at lower densities, demonstrating that cell concentration is another important variable to consider when performing electroporations. Further optimization of cell density and plasmid DNA and siRNA concentrations, which is possible with the Gene Pulser® MXcell™ system can provide even better results.

Technical note 5720 is available either from a local Bio-Rad sales office or it may be downloaded from the Bio-Rad web site accessed via the article webpage.

A variety of vectors optimized for gene cloning and expression in a range of host organisms are available, alongside competent cells for genetic replication. Here, you can explore a range of molecular tools, high-quality genomic and cDNA libraries, premade clones, transformation and transfection reagents and mutagenesis or gene expression detection assays and expression arrays. RNAi requires chemical synthesis, introduction of DNA vectors into cells, an assay of RNAi effects and RNAi quantification or analysis. Consider target sequence selection, reagent preparation, controls, high specificity and effectiveness and low non-specific gene knockdown.
