SCIEX Separations, part of AB SCIEX, will present a workshop, “Low-flow ESI-MS workflows that Increase Efficiency,” at the 41st International Symposium on High-Performance Liquid-Phase Separations and Related Techniques (HPLC 2014). The workshop will be held on Monday, May 12 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

The workshop will discuss the latest developments in the use of low-flow separations techniques with mass spectrometry – microLC-MS and the integration of capillary electrophoresis with electrospray ionization (CESI-MS). These techniques deliver increased sensitivity and throughput, combined with reduced ion suppression and solvent consumption compared to analytical flow LC-MS.

Examples in the presentation will include robust drug quantitation in urine, steroids in dried blood spots, and the benefits of ultra-low flow ESI-MS for the characterization of biologics.

UHPLC and HPLCHigh performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC), also known as UPLC, are analytical techniques used to separate, identify and quantitate components of complex mixtures including biological samples such as proteins and lipids as well as chemical mixtures of pesticides, drugs and oils. Both techniques are liquid chromatographic methods but differ by operating pressures (HPLC < 6000 psi < UHPLC ). Components of HPLC and UHPLC systems include columns, detectors, pumps, autosamplers and column heaters. Explore a range of UHPLC and HPLC columns for your specific sample needs including reverse phase, normal phase, ion exchange, HILIC, ion exclusion and size exclusion columns. For more specialized HPLC, explore FPLC, countercurrent LC and simulated moving bed systems. Quantify proteins, contaminants, pesticides or screen for drug metabolites with a high level of sensitivity. LC-MS systems and equipment include reverse phase, normal phase and specialized columns integrated with various MS detectors such as time-of-flight (TOF), quadrupole, orbitrap or ion trap mass analyzers. LC-MS/MS instruments equipped with a qTOF or triple quadrupole analyzer give greater sensitivity and resolving power to your analysis. Techniques used include HPLC, chromatography, spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, immunochemical, electrophoresis, turbidometric / spectrophotometric assay, MRI and ISE analysis. Tests are often carried out on plasma or serum but urine (urinalysis) and fecal specimens are also processed.UrineThe analysis of urine is important in medicinal, anti-doping, forensic and life sciences applications. The ability to evaluate what someone has ingested through their urine enables fast detection and diagnosis of certain illnesses. Blood SpotDrug TestingIt is essential to test the efficacy and toxicity of drugs at every stage of their development to ensure that a pharmaceutical product is fit for purpose and safe for use before reaching the stage of mass production and distribution.Steroids
